Suggestions on secure external HDD (brand, size)

After much good advice here, I'm also reconsidering the age and size of my external drive.

Current external is a LaCie D2 quadra 250GB. Of course I'll be getting at least a 1TB for its replacement, but am interested to know what brand of drive woud be recommended.

The LaCie has been rock solid, never missed a beat, and though it's not instantaneous to spin up, the FW800 has great speed. Problem is that when I got my wife a LaCie Hard Disc, it crapped after six weeks.

I see LaCie has a D2 Quadra enterprise external 1TB, but would like to know what other options are reliable and worth looking into.
