i hope that the terror threat level goes down, because that obviously means that there is less chance of an event happenin in the city, and my dad is a cop in the city. it really scares me sometimes.

I'm sure that you are very proud of your Dad as a cop! I have a neigbor that is a cop. Whenever I see a cop, I try to walk over and say thank you for your service. Please say thanks to your Dad for his service. A cop and fireman put their life on the line everyday so that we can be safe and free!

Oh please, you will make start crying.

Being a policeman (or woman) or a fireman is a job. People do not do those jobs to be heroes, they do them because they get paid to do it. In regards to the police, they have a responsibility to uphold the law but all too often this leads to an abuse of the little power they hold in their badges. They are human after all.

As for the firemen, theirs is a thankless task for sure but rather than make heroes out of those who get killed on the job why not contribute more funds for better equipment and more crew thus improving the overall safety for everyone involved in putting out fires? I guess a solution like that would cost too much to the politician who would have to reallocate money from some other department's budget.

Everyone puts something on the line in order to survive. Get over your hero-worship and grow up. Better yet, stick to the topic of the thread and tell us why you think this may or may not be The Summer Of Mac.

sorry, but my dad is a cop because he likes helping people out. how do they, in any way, abuse the "little power they have"? my dad is a hero because he does a lot of things that other people are not willing to do. he works very inconvienient hours, and doesn't complain one bit! i don't think you know what it's like for him, do you now.

next time, please know what you are talking about.

Actually a close friend of mine has been working in the police here in Australia for several years now so it is not like I do not know what I am talking about.

Besides, you are still hijacking this thread with your hero-worship. Can't you talk about your dad in some other thread? This is The Summer Of Mac thread and your dad (and all your other heros) hardly had a hand in that.

Thank you very much. I think that we do need to appreciate our policeman and thank them. I'm sure that you are very proud of you Dad! ;)

sol-sorry if what came up in this thread is off topic, but look at any other thread, and there's bound to be at least one thing off topic. also, you failed to answer my question, in what way do they abuse thier power at all? did you feel scared to death not knowing where your dad was when the twin towers came down? he had to work around the clock for days, and barely got to call us. not fun at all.

I can't even imagine what it must have been like to you, your family, and of course your very brave father! ;)

That's because he's a professional! From what you say of your father, I'm not at all suprised that he left as soon as he heard news.

Little power: Maybe you have heard of police beating minorities, maybe racial profiling? If a cop runs me over right now it will be my fault, why?, because he is a cop.

I don't like how anyone in law enforcementr or fire whatever is regarded as a hero. What made someone a hero ten years ago is much different then nowadays. Nowadays, it is simply a term thrown around by sensationalizing news station. Like the word 'love', using the word over and over again makes it lose its status as something of meaning.

I hope and pray that you will never have a need for a fireman or a policeman! If you ever do you will realize the hard work that they do every do. Most don't think about them until they are in need. They deserve our respect!

Children of baby boomers have a higher respect for the military. Check out this article that I posted!
