Interesting show, just watched the 1st two episodes. Waiting to see where the story goes.

Anyone else watching it? What are your thoughts on it?

First two episodes aired on 10th July 2024 with new episodes every Wednesday.

Official description of the show from Apple:

“Sunny” stars Rashida Jones as Suzie, an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan, whose life is upended when her husband and son disappear in a mysterious plane crash. As “consolation” she’s given Sunny, one of a new class of domestic robots made by her husband’s electronics company. Though at first, Suzie resents Sunny’s attempts to fill the void in her life, gradually they develop an unexpected friendship. Together they uncover the dark truth of what really happened to Suzie’s family and become dangerously enmeshed in a world Suzie never knew existed.

While watching the first 2 episodes, I kept wishing that Susie, the protagonist, would take out Sunny's batteries, or grab a crowbar and get rid of that pesky robot for good. Problem solved!

But I guess that's not the idea of the series, so I'll have to wait to see what happens next.

Just watched the third episode. Not impressed. Seems like the story is not moving anywhere. Not sure whether I will continue to watch the rest of the series.

Really enjoying this one so far. It reminds me of the movie ‘I, Robot’ and strangely the robot was called Sonny (different spelling).

Spoilers:

My theories on this series - maybe the robot Sunny was created by the husband to find him, like how the robot in ‘I, Robot’ was created to find out why Dr. Lanning was murdered. I believe the husband wasn’t killed but maybe missing or hidden somewhere along with the son. What if he started realizing how deep he was getting in his research and with the Yakuza involved, so he created Sunny to send the wife clues, like a breadcrumbs trail?

I just also love the expressions on the robot screen face, like the eyes, conveying annoyance.

Overall did not like the show. But the season finale was much better. Will not be surprised if it gets renewed for another season.

Now that we've seen what trouble a domestic robot can cause, we can follow up with the just-released B-movie named AFRAID, about a smarter-than-Alexa home assistance system that listens and watches you and the kids in every room. What could possibly go wrong?
