It may get that information from the Weather app. Make sure you have location enable. Just a guess since it works for me.

I understand that some users, myself included, are having issues with Apple Watch not displaying sunrise / sunset times on any watch faces.

Just curious if you found a workable solution?
The Apple Support Communities thread you shared has been updated quite a bit since your initial post here - with all manner of attempts to address the issue.

The recurring "fix" they seem to point to is resetting the watch and going through the whole set up process again.

In addition to sunrise/sunset, this issue also appears to be linked to location data not displaying on the Astronomy face.

Turning the watch off then turning it back on solved the problem

Edit: I swear my watch was perfect when I got it and I'm experiencing so many glitches with 1.0.1

It worked! I restarted the watch and now the sunrise time is showing. That problem is definitely traceable to the 1.01 because the problem was just a few days or about a week when we upgraded.

I can sometimes get it to update by pulling up the map glance and waiting for it to figure out where I am again. Odd.

Restarting defiantly sorts this out and it's 100% a 1.01 bug and annoying at that.

IDK, Still having this problem as well Ive tried everything in the above threads. at best I can only see the "sunset" and it updates only after some of the fixes. Not once has it shown the sunrise.

Unfortunately, I had to remove the sunset/sunrise complications from all my faces because it only worked 1 out of 5 times. None of the above fixes worked, including the "Maps glance" one. Even when it finds my location, I still only see --:-- .

This is extremely frustrating especially because it makes the Solar face useless. I really hope watchOS2 addresses this.

Here's a definitive solution: open up maps app on your iPhone (with location service ON of course) and apple watch. problem solved.

Just tried it. Nothing. I'm telling you, I've tried everything- even banging it on my kitchen sink. Nothing fixes the issue, although it randomly will appear for small amounts of time.

That's even more frustrating; seeing it work for lots of other users but not for me. The damn thing won't budge. I'm at a loss at what to do to fix this stupid, simple, minuscule feature.
Have you tried re-pairing your watch?

Countless times. Hell, I even tried NOT restoring from backup, and a brand new watch. I've tried e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I think it's worth noting that I only had this issue after 1.0.1.

wow that's frustrating. If I were you I'd wait for the watchOS2 release and if it's still not fixed by then, I'd contact apple and ask for a replacement.

I'm hoping OS2 fixes it, but if not, I don't see what a replacement would do, because this IS my second watch. Apple Support unfortunately gives me a run around of "Try repairing your watch" and then "Reset all network settings" on my iPhone, which of course doesn't work.

Literally all I can do for now is wait and hope for the best.

Another possible solution I can think of is to unpair your watch, then reset all settings on your iPhone, then re-pair

Sometime when no sunrise/sunset happen, I will try reboot AW, and sunrise/sunset will come back. Other time, I have to shutdown both iPhone and AW, turn on iPhone 1st, wait for completely boot up, then turn on AW, and it always work after.
Never have to re-pair.

No need to unpair your watch. So much of a hassle.

Restarting the phone/watch worked for some people. Not me.

What did work was:

1. On the iphone, go to Settings, Privacy, Location Services, Apple Watch Faces. Toggle from "While using" to "Never"

2. Turn bluetooth off on iphone

3. Toggle from "Never" back to "While Using"

4. Turn Bluetooth Back on.

Almost immediately after, sunset/sunrise data started working again.
