i *must* put the +1 or +44 etc....every now and then I go through my contacts to make sure it's there. I need the uniformity or my OCD kicks in
I don’t add the country code for the numbers in the same country where I’m currently living at. however, I do add +(country code) to every international number I keep on my contacts.I just realized all of my contact phone numbers are mixed. Some will say (555)555-5555 and some will say +1 (555)555-5555. Curious if you guys add the +1 or remove the 1 for all of your US phone number contacts?
It was a "1" then the seven digit number!
I don't know if you missed this whole pandemic thing... but there isn't a lot of travel anymore, and there likely won't be for a long time. That’s not quite true, especially if you travel internationally. For example, if you’re a US based person and just store your local numbers as (xxx)xxx-xxxx or any variation without the +1, it will work within US, but the moment you travel outside the country, calling back that number could be a hit or a miss.

I really don’t appreciate that you shared my phone number on a public forum.I just realized all of my contact phone numbers are mixed. Some will say (555)555-5555 and some will say +1 (555)555-5555. Curious if you guys add the +1 or remove the 1 for all of your US phone number contacts?
Would only matter calling from other countries than US right? What's weird is when I first got iPhone and would save contacts from #s, sometimes they would have the +1 but sometimes not. Can't say I make use of that. It seems to work fine either way, so it seems like it doesn't really matter much (aside from some sort of edge case type of scenarios perhaps).
Yea toll was so ridiculous. Could call someone miles and miles across PA for no toll but someone literally next door could be toll. And why was toll more than collect calls out of state?? And yea the 1 was nice because you could not use it for a number you weren't sure on and it would fail if it was tollIt's funny but I still feel a twinge of needless worry about adding "+1" to a phone number.
Why? Back in the old days of land lines, having to dial "1" before a number meant you had to pay for that call. Even though that no longer applies to calls within the US on most US carriers, that "feeling" is still there for just a tiny moment when I see I'm dialing +1 XXX-XXX-XXXX.
Hell, even back in the days of seven-digit dialing on land lines, you could end up paying for a call even to the next county over! So most phone companies required a "1" before any billed call, even to the same area code. I still remember having to ask my parents for permission to call my grandparents in the next county over back when I was a kid in the 80s. It was a "1" then the seven digit number!
This stuff gets burned into your brain at a young age and it's hard to shake it.
