Long story short - I love the smaller form factor and honestly want to start living in the moment more. As in - not being on my phone all the time - I feel like a smaller screen would help that.

However my big concerns are battery life lasting at least a day and if the 3x optical zoom is really all that different from the 5x. I do really enjoy photography, but I'm more of a point and shoot and I know digitally cropping a photo can really harm the quality.

Anybody have any insight?

Last year I went with the iPhone 14 Pro Max. I enjoyed the battery life, but the phone was big, heavy, and the edges made it heavier and not the most comfortable to use. I traded it in for the Pro. That was more comfortable to use, but the battery would be dead or almost dead by the end of the day.

When the new phones launched, I considered sticking with the 14 Pro. During the week I kept looking at the size specs and figured I would give the 15 Pro Max a try, and if my experience was the same, I'd return it and stick with the 14 Pro. The lighter weight smaller size and curved edges make a difference. the 15 Pro Max is way more usable, my hands feel no fatigue, and I am loving being back at more than a day battery life. At the end of the night last night when my 14 Pro would be at less than 10%, this phone was at 40%. I am not experiencing the heat, the photo quality has been great, and I am definitely keeping it, shipped my 14 Pro out yesterday.

Hope that helps.

If you want to cut way back on iPhone usage, follow these tips:

Use a much older iPhone. The slower the better. It’s should be kinda a pain to use

Put the display in grayscale mode / hells tons

Turn the phone OFF before putting it in your pocket. You’re less likely to want to use it if you’ve got to wait 30 seconds each time for it to boot up

So, here is my new strategy this year:

Background
Long time Max hater and regular Pro owner. This year I decided to get the 15 PM cause of the camera and battery improvements(14 Pro was horrible)

I also got the AW Ultra 2 and finally retired my AW S4(thought I would only keep it 1 year and didn't do the Stainless Steel, but did have cellular).

The Ultra 2 is so capable, so fast, plenty loud for calls and the larger screen makes most tasks easier. The battery also lasts forever and is much more reliable than my old, old S4.

My Plan
Leave my phone home or in the car more often when I go places. The Ultra 2 is plenty capable of doing most things I need without it being an easy anti-social distraction or having the "Max" in my pants pocket. That may change once it is jacket season, but I'm going to try this philosophy and see how it goes. Maybe closer to being more "disconnected" without being completely cut off from the modern world.

That way when I want the best camera or the longest lasting battery, my phone has it. When I don't need the phone, its put somewhere else.

I’m on day 5 or 6 with the 15 pro. I had doubts about battery life the first day or two, but now I’m confident in saying this phone can get you through a full day (24 hours) with moderate or slightly heavy use. I’m satisfied with the battery life on my 15P.

I’m sure the 15PM has even better battery life but, for me, that isn’t worth me having to deal with its bulk. When I’m out, I don’t miss the extra screen size that the PM offers because I’m not glued to my phone. I value portability. When I’m home, I have plenty of options if I want to watch something on a bigger screen (such as an iPad, MBP and TV).

I’m also pretty happy with the camera on the 15P.

If you want battery life, you’ll want the Max. And honestly the phones feel so much lighter this year. Size might not be the issue you think it is.

Pro because Max always feels too big for my hands. The smaller size is just so much more comfortable to hold one-handed so I’m not constantly having to use both hands just to use the phone.
