iPod Super quick question: 3rd gen iPod & USB

My neighbour has a 3rd gen iPod and has just got a new laptop to replace a broken one, alas there's no firewire port. I know that the 3rd Gen iPod won't charge over USB, but:

Will the 3rd Gen iPod sync over USB?
