This is occurring on my step daughters iPhone 7+. It will place and receive calls. However there is no sound transmitted either way. The calls go through but she cannot hear nor can the other person hear her. Went through the usual turning blue tooth off and checking to make sure it isn’t stuck in headphone mode to no avail. It still does it even if blue tooth is off. I first tried pairing my blue parrot headset with it and the calls were fine through that. I then powered it off for about 30 seconds and re started it. That seemed to work as I placed a call from my phone to hers and could hear both ways on my phone and hers. This morning it’s back to doing it again. I would also add that music/video audio plays fine through it. Any suggestions??

Its called "Loop Disease" and Apple won't fix it. It's a well known (fatal) problem with the 7 series. I believe there's a class action lawsuit in the making over this issue. The only way to be able to use the telephone when this problem develops is to use Bluetooth headphones or wired headphones (So they say). I have a 7 and it's sick with this problem too.
I've heard that there are a couple 3rd party repair shops that can microsolder the offending IC chip, but it's very tricky. Apple and their authorized repair shops won't touch it.

The audio chip on that device went out (that’s a very common issue with the 7 models as well as the WiFi burning out). This is the constant problems I find at work when I am testing these devices. There’s no saying what causes it to stop working, it just doesn’t. It’s really unfortunate.

Thanks guys. That really sucks. I have two other 7’s hope that doesn’t happen. We may just wipe them clean and trade phones as I pretty much exclusively use a B tooth headset.
