Superdrive troubles after 10.5.8

Installed 10.5.8 on (Early 2008) Mac Pro. The superdrive initially would not read any media. I would insert a disc and it would not even spool up... it would make a few noises and then after about 30 seconds the disc would eject.

I first installed 10.5.8 via the software update, but after discovering this problem I downloaded and installed the combo update. The superdrive can now read some media, but it still seems to have a problem with DVD's.

(I can play these "problem" DVD's on my PowerBook that is running 10.5.7. just fine.)

Anyone else experiencing a similar issue? What are my options to fix this?
