If the trailer is any valid indication, it looks like the new movie may stay true to the story (in many ways). It will be hard not to compare to Christopher Reeves.
Christopher Reeve will always be THE Man of Steel, in my opinion. I just hope with this new era at DC they will start to bring in more enemies that allow Superman to BE Superman (I’m dying for a Superman/Darkseid battle). The Justice League and Superman/Batman cartoon movies have some really good fights between the two.

Scenes filmed in Cleveland where Superman creators lived and worked. Living in The Land, I really appreciate this nod to the city. Fascinating to see the crew transform downtown into Metropolis for shoots.

The thing is, the Superman origin story has been rebooted so many times that audiences want to see something new. I think Gunn understands this and is looking to move the needle in other ways.

In interviews I've read recently, this Superman movie wont be another origin story. That's been told 1000 times (same for Batman). From what I understand, this Superman takes place where super heroes already exist, humanity has learned to live with/deal with them and Superman is more or less the new guy in town learning how to be one of them.

While I really enjoyed Man of Steel and the Christopher Reeves (1&2) movies, I'm excited for this iteration.

I want to see the "Red Son" version. It's good story with a few twists on the Superman origin story, one expected🤨, one unexpected.🤫

I think Christopher Nolan really put Batman on the map, Batman Begins was excellent and The Dark Knight was even better. Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker in that was just out of this world.

But James Gunn has serious superhero movie chops. He showed what he could do with Guardians of the Galaxy, and I hope they let him do a trilogy of Superman movies, and maybe a Justice League reboot. I think Justice League was significantly underrated.

The big question is, can the DC universe pull off something as compelling as Marvel’s Infinity Stone cycle? I can see Marvel trying to put up another big cycle, where perhaps the Eternals were supposed to be a centrepiece with the Celestials as a big draw, but the first Eternals film didn’t do so well.

I agree about Ledger’s Joker performance… in the realm of Batman, his performance was above and beyond. 🥰

I agree with this, though I did enjoy Man of Steel. Maybe if Cavill would have gotten more solo movies he could have topped Reeve, but Snyderverse never took off ground. But Michael Shannon is without a doubt my favourite Zod. He was so wonderfully unhinged. I hope this new more colorful and optimistic Superman movie will still feel thrilling and not have too much cheese in it.
