I am really laughing at at all the people who now say they'd never go back to 4" when last year they swore that big phones were for those fat Android fingers and Apole users needed a small scteen due to delicate/rich fingers.

These's no such people but your imagination. Those who wanted large screen always want it. People complaining big android phone like Note or GS are those buying iPhone 6 now, not 6+. You may just laugh alone, not at people.

I never argued one handed operations was a neccesity.

So, Apple should make 2" iPhone for kiddo below 10? Make perfect sense./S

OMG...don't even mention "Camera Roll". It's a software touch which is easy to enable/disable with codes. New 4" iPhone requires new R&D, manufacturing and component supplies. With lower margin (in low tier), why would Apple want to do that? People should start thinking a little bit, not just whining. Besides, there's still a 5S. I know some people still love 4" device, but it does not generate enough profit for Apple to make new 4" iPhone. Move on. It's a business strategy: Kill the low profit devices.

Camera Roll point was in response to people saying Apple has never went back on a decision. Same with the MBP backlit keyboard.

As far as the profitability of a smaller iPhone in the lineup: Do you have knowledge that a smaller model won't be a significant profit stream in the iPhone lineup?

BTW I read many posts that sound like people ARE thinking about this and not whining. It actually seems like there is more whining from those who say people shouldn't want a smaller phone and they should just deal with it, because big phones are the thing they should want now.

I Don't Know. Abandoning a popular screen size isn't really moving forward. I mean any new 4" iPhone you think would have current specs anyway.
I myself will be getting the 6S in a 4.7" when I renew this Dec. Only because I haven't spent a ton of time using one and the larger screen is appealing. But who knows if I can adapt after 6 years of one handed use?

You will. I wear XS size of gloves and I adapt well to iPhone6+ after 2 months. For me, it would be perfect if the screen is around 5". But 5.5" works for me okay now.

You still don't understand the technical part of software vs hardware design. Assume that Apple responded to complaints about Camera Rolls, it costed them nothing to bring it back. About the 4" new design iPhone, that's entire new design which will cost so much to bring something into a market to sell for the price of existing 5S.
Look at BOM from 5S with its current price and use that for new 4" iPhone. The margin is like $200 off. Yeah, Apple are so willing to do that to make a small population of people happy./s

Please. It's very hard to find 4" smartphones nowadays. Even entry level Android phones are coming in 4.5" and above now (Sony's will be 5"!). It doesn't matter what you say... whether it can still fit in the pocket, whether you can still use it with one hand, some people just prefer and feel more comfortable with 4" phones!

You don't say jeans or slacks are better for anyone. You don't say regular fit, slim fit, or loose fit is better for anyone. You don't say SUV or sedan is better for anyone. It's a matter of preference and choice and phone makers are taking away that choice! It's ridiculous. Just like bigger clothes and bigger cars are not always better, bigger screens are also not always better.

Samsung Galaxy mini, my friend.

Yea, well if you bothered to read my earlier posts in this thread you would have seen I asked for a smaller iPhone specifically to avoid Android.

Giving my daughter an Android device while I'm using iOS is like me having a steak dinner while feeding her the cat. It's just mean.

Does your daughter carry a purse or small handbag of some sort?

She's 9 years old. She'll survive on an Android. If she can't make it, then she has bigger problems than her phone.

If Apple, would just move the Touch ID/home button to the back of the phone, they can make the bezels smaller, that would make the whole phone smaller.
Some manufacturers have tried this approach (ex: HTC One Max) and have shown that having the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone was an exercise in frustration. I'm all for a smaller form factor device (note that I didn't say "smaller screen") but the Touch ID is damn near perfect. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Gosh, you do sound rather hung up on this... it's just a phone, not critical surgery, and I very much doubt your daughter would love you any less, either way.

Kinda reminds me of my friend who has morphed into somewhat of an iOS "fanboy", who sent me a video of his 12 yr old daughter crying (yes, actually crying - I had to ask him as I thought it was a setup joke) because she had a Moto G and felt hard done by that she hadn't got an iPhone like her Dad, and wanted one (and of course, he got her one, like any Dad would - possibly oblivious to the fact that his personal obsession for all things "i" had not gone un-noticed by his children, and emulated in their own mannerisms)... made me cringe uncomfortably, to be honest. If I had children, you wouldn't be having any of that mind-numbing tap tap tap brainwashing kit in your hands until you were AT LEAST 18, no mistake about it.

There are benefits for me aswell, now with the iTunes sub accounts. When she buys apps/games in the AppStore on her phone, my phone promps me if I accept her purchase. The sub account also let's me GPS monitor her and gives us shared photo streams.

I know there are alternatives, but seeing how other makers manage to keep making smaller phones, it's more than a little annoying that Apple only have two (fairly large) sizes.

Please forgiver a nitpicker, but do you realise that "as" and "well" are actually separate words, and not joined? It's just because I see this SO much and it just irks me insanely. :)

I think it will be released spring 2015, like the earliest 4 inch iPhone rumors suggested.

Apple Watch is about to be released, yet we haven't seen any parts either.

Release the 4" phone. Phablets are stupid.

I'd hardly call the iPhone 6 a phablet.

RIP Steve Jobs & One-handed use

One handed use = so overrated.

I'd be perfectly fine with a larger iPhone, if it came in the form factor of the 5 series. The 6 series is, eh... HORRIBLE. Enough said.

The iPhone 5 was garbage design. The worst to date, in fact. You sir have poor taste! (jk) :D

Learn to adapt.

Hey, I was just kidding around. I have a 6+ :)

They still have small pockets.

If there parents can afford to get them an iphone, they can afford to get them bigger pockets.
