it's not really different than moving to a city and investing time and resources building connections with the local community, but then a city enacts a dumb law you don't like so now you have to either stay and live with it or move and give up your connections.

and it sounds to me you should have researched more into the platform 15 years ago before choosing. apple has always locked iPhone down tightly. this shouldn't be a surprise to you.

No, I'm quite content with the way it is, but why is having a choice so upsetting to you? You're more than welcome to continue using the App store and the apps that conform to its often draconian rules.

It's not. We all have always had the choice between Androids and iPhones.

Except for when they leave and the app I paid for suddenly stops working until I install a third party store all because you wanted to change the rules after I invested my resources into this platform.

It can also stop working because the dev decides to stop the development or sell out to another company that will either absorb its technology into another app or directly into an OS.

The legal system is quite something… so because Apple was found “in contempt” (and according to other posters, due to a California timing technicality), they get punished with this illegal thing where they have to provide the service free of charge for well over a year until the courts decide to drag their rear and take a look at the thing again.

I find this appalling, if me as a person, due to some technicality I have to work and provide my services for free until who knows when, then I would lose my collective ****.
Forced to do a job free of charge has a very strong definition.

I'm ok with this. Companies can go under which is one of the possible expected outcomes when purchasing an app.

But the idea that "You're more than welcome to continue using the App store" is false. I along with every informed buyer bought iPhones with the expectation that I only deal with one store or I can't use XYZ app. There is no "you can use XYZ app if you install ABC store"
