Is this a serious question??? I can't think of any advantages the Surface Pro would have over the Mac mini for that use case. Of course the Mac mini is ideal for server use. I use one as a VM server for our company - it hasn't been restarted or turned off in 9 months and we have only had one VM crash in that time, and that was due to over aggressive resource sharing in Virtualbox's settings for a newly initiated Windows 8.1 VM.

Can't imagine why you would want to use a tablet as even a terminal server...how would you even set that up for the long term??

I think a custom-built PC or Mac mini is better for you. Also surface is a bad tablet in my opinion. They are uncomfortable to use.

If you really want a tablet for a home server might I recommend you go to TOYS R US and purchase the formidable
