I've lurked on MacRumors for many years. Probably more than a decade. Been using Apples since the ][+.
Today I finally registered to make this post. Then I'll go back to lurking.

I ordered two HomePod minis. I got these because my Mac Mini's speaker is too quiet. Reading Apple.com it made everything seem easy and it claims to work with all devices.
Sure, maybe, but it doesn't do all audio, e.g. system beeps.

And I still have no idea how to get it connected to the Mac Mini. No instructions for that in the package or on apple.com. Google has some hits where it looks like people connect to their iPhone first and then Mac. After 15 mins of Googling and reading the experience's of others, I've stopped.

Wow. Just wow. I've started the return process.

It also requires a iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to use and get setup:

  • HomePod mini with the latest version of software
  • iPhone SE, iPhone 6s or later, or iPod touch (7th generation) with the latest iOS; or iPad Pro, iPad (5th generation or later), iPad Air 2 or later, or iPad mini 4 or later with the latest iPadOS
  • 802.11n Wi-Fi internet access
