What are your thoughts on March 9 surprises? Apple isn't going to hold press event without having a thing or two up their sleeve. I'm really hoping a black Milanese Loop is one of them.

Yes! This is exactly what I've wanted and have stated several times, Apple should make a black Milanese loop!

I love the idea, but given that the black SS watch and bracelet are DLC-coated, it seems unlikely.

I'm not an expert on DLC application, but my understanding is that it's effectively 'sprayed' on (at extremely high temps), which means it needs to go onto the exterior of finished pieces - it wouldn't go evenly onto the interior of the woven mesh, and (I think) if they applied it to the unwoven wire, it wouldn't then be able to be woven.

If someone with more-specific expertise has input, I'd much welcome either a confirmation or correction.

I just find it a little odd that they would launch with a black SS watch and only 1 higher end band that meant to match it...

Why would the Milanese Loop need to be DLC-coated? They can simply color the mesh (before weaving) the appropriate shade to match Space Black.

So I'm not an expert on this but I thought steel can be colored by controlling the thickness of chrome oxide that forms.
Even if that's possible (I'm not a metallurgist), it's not the process used to color the Watch, and might not be able to offer the desired Ives-approved hue. Besides, regardless of the process, any surface treating would wear off as the links of the band rubs against themselves, causing discoloration and tackiness galore.

Yes, I'd consider the space black if I could get it on a black sport band.

I think there's a good explanation for it only being on the link band though. Let's assume that Apple charges the same price for it as the standard link Watch. That would make the Space Black have a higher average selling price because it is only sold with the link, and also have higher average profit than the standard model. This makes it feasible to sell it at the same price as the Standard, even though it costs more to make. The other option would be to make it available for any band, but make each version cost more than its standard counterpart.

Because it's not available with a Sport or leather band, it's making me think that it'll actually not be any extra. They're basically getting you to pay up because it's more costly to make. To the person choosing between which link bracelet, it doesn't seem like Apple makes more profit on the Space Black, but when the standard is averaged with the lower priced options, the Space Black does have higher margins. That what I'm expecting anyway.

That looks epic. Would love them to eventually come out with that. I plan on getting the black stainless steel version with the link bracelet. Next to the white sport band, this would compliment my band collection nicely :)

I'm pretty sure there will be more and more bands over time. They simply can add more bands/styles and keep the interest in the Apple Watch with them.
Also pretty great marketing strategy to keep the money flowin'!

Yeah, I think we might even see more straps this year, maybe at the iPhone event.

Or, they'll release all new straps every time a new watch comes out, and then, people who have the current watch can just buy a new strap, if they don't want to buy a new watch.
