They always try to hold back something to show off, I mean we might know the hardware, but what it can do might be a surprise. So with AR and the 2 cameras plus laser scanning ...imagine if you can take a some images of an room and make a 3D representation, then take a a few images of a person, or object then in AR mode animated a 3D image in that room, move around the room, make a video etc.. or just amazing realistic 3D images you move around in AR mode. heck then I’ll have pay up for it.

And if it does have some advanced infrared camera or thermal, maybe you can do some cool heat maps, or detect temperatures.

So maybe with a bunch of sensors iPhone 8 does something really bonkers, what would blow your mind, what kind of things can a 2 camera system including laser and infrared scanners do? Maybe $1000 might not seem so crazy.

Maybe it's a time machine, and during the keynote Tim Cook will be like, "Look in your pockets. You've all already bought one in the future and sent in back to your past selves!" and everyone watching will check their pockets and see that they already have an iPhone 8!

Unlike this moronic reply ^^ I actually think opinion forums are fun to state opinions on, even if it's wild.

I expect there's some software-driven tie-in to the hardware they haven't mentioned that will blow us away. Likely a nice refresh rate on the screen for AR/VR coupled with increased battery life to manage it.

You're referring to front-facing sensors. It has no rear-facing infrared sensors and therefore it's AR capabilities are basically no better than the previous iPhones except for front-facing aspects like filters.

The front will be capable of Portrait selfies and the rear setup will be slightly better for AR just because the two image sensors are slightly further apart which nets a slightly better depth perception for the computer.

Apple is holding infrared sensors on the rear of the device back for the 2018 iPhones, I guarantee it. Next year the big feature to get people to upgrade is two-fold. One of course is that Apple will release the Plus-sized OLED version identical to the premium iPhone this year, except bigger obviously. And two is the rear-facing infrared sensor setup which will be heavily touted as profoundly changing the game on AR capabilities.

I think it could have an always on clock (and maybe something else) which will make it super cool.

Portrait mode for selfies would be mind blowing too but I think that’s too much to ask. :D

Although at this point, there are no certainties, you are probably wrong.

“According to Fast Company, Apple is working on a rear-facing VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) system that could be included in the iPhone 8. Such a system would offer faster and more accurate depth measurements for augmented reality purposes, along with speedier autofocusing when taking a photograph.”

i’ve read about this feature multiple times in the past months and if you watch the Dev Arkit keynote, which I link below along with two relevant stills, they entertain themselves with the idea of using hit test mapping for precise tracking/plane detection, you know, with a ****ing LASER.

Besides to all tangents, that allude to the idea in the video, it is of relevance, the red line that you can see in second attached image. If you look in the same time stamp of the video I linked, you can clearly see that the red line moves as would move a schematic representation of a LASER.

So...yeah you are most certainly wrong but I don’t have previledge information so take it with a grain of salt anyways.

What exactly am I wrong about, the iPhone 8 not having rear facing IR? It doesn't according to all schematic leaks, case leaks, and all reports except that one Fast Company report that said only that Apple was working on it. OF COURSE they're working on it as I said it's coming in 2018.

First of all you are wrong when you reply to the user betabeta that he is “refering to the front facing sensors” when clearly he is not! He is refering to the same as me, a rear face Laser and he knows about it he didn’t make a confusion with the faceid 3d sensing technology.

Secondly you are wrong when you say that the Iphone 8 “Augmented reality capabilities, are basically no better than the previous Iphones except for front facing capabilities like filters”.

You just have chosen to believe that the increased AR capabilities that every leak on IPhone 8 talks about are not increased capabilities at all...but rather better face filters.

If you want to maintain a certain degree of rationality atleast you should remain opened to other options, you know options that better represent what “increased AR capabilities” means.

Then there is the YouTube ARkit Apple keynote for Devs that I’ve linked in my last post.
The way I see it, this keynote from 2017 WWDC in June, tangentially entertained the idea of using a laser for plane detection, something that is not hardware implemented in the current IPhones.
Knowing fully well, that this is somewhat of a revelation, Apple posted the video online, 3 months in advance of Iphone 8 release.

From your point of view, with this video, Apple purposely leaked information about technology that only is going to be implemented 1 year and 3 months from then (1 year from now)!
Yeah that makes so much sense.

Then you are wrong, to be so sure, at least I’m opened to the uncertainty.

The absolute best thing they could do at the event in terms of shock value would be.. drop the price of the upcoming phone to 899.99 instead of 999.99 that is pretty much set in stone as far as the internet is concerned. I think that would get a huge standing O and have people like myself questioning why I don't even want it but have to have it. Price drops would be a huge thing in my opinion. That's across the board, more people would upgrade yearly, those who say no no I don't need to upgrade would now question if they should and possibly people who moved away to other devices may return to Apple because it's a little cheaper for a high end product. Honestly do I think this will happen.. not a chance. But to me that would be a huge shake up surprise.. They really could announce all prices during the keynote like normal.. at the end.. oh one more thing.. those prices.. yeah drop a 100.00 off each.. Pretty sure that would have people jumping out of their seats... it's a dream of what I still feel Apple could do and should be doing. Their tech is so good.. but they are heading into dangerous territory where eventually people cannot afford to upgrade and will simply move to something else.

You think their stock is high now.. if they did this.. their stock would go even higher.

IDK why but AR just doesn't interest me. *Yawn* It seems gimmicky at best. There are so many scope issues (space to experience it, practical application and user/developer adaptation). Because you can only experience it through the phone I just don't see it being a big deal. It is probably a step towards practical AR where you aren't limited to a phone. Maybe someday have projecting sensors that can AR your surroundings without a screen. That would be interesting. Like projecting art or TV on a wall (and have it be photo realistic) and be able to change it on the fly. That would be amazing.

As far as something that would be great to see in the new iPhone is that is includes airpods, wireless charging and is waterproof or strongly resistant. I would be happy to see that. :)

I think it's good, but there is still much to be developed in that area. For example, from the current batch of examples that we saw posted on the FP, I wasn't too pleased with it. I'm hoping some creative developers will take it to the next level though.

Nothing special leak on iphone 8
everything rumors show is show

7s-7s plus -8 all same thing design
only diff is 8 = new color and glass body or without home button

Not New Redesign this yrs -
