What Olly meant was the badge of permanently banned and temporarily suspended is the same. I.e. A member's status is "suspended" if on a short time out and also says "suspended" if they've been permanently banned.
Yup, that was confusing for me as well when they switched systems (from VB to XF if I recall correctly). The "old" system used to be able to distinguish between "suspended" - which was temporary and finite (and on an ascending scale, if misdemeanours continued) and "banned" which was permanent.
However, the current system does not.
Well... there is a first time for everything.I must be an exception to the rule, never been suspended so ... must take a lot! <cough>
Typically if you treat others with respect, you'll not run afoul of rules. Moderation escalation is what typically occurs, i.e., when a member ignores the reminders from the moderation staff for a given violation and chooses to continue unabated. Suspensions are the next phase in the the moderation escalation process.I must be an exception to the rule, never been suspended so ... must take a lot!
Appears so, looking at the FAQ suspended means it's a temporary "timeout" and banned means permanent, at least that's the way I read it.So its fixed right? Suspended means not coming back and suspended waiting room means a temp ban?
But they changed those words. They don’t use time out anymore. For a while, they just used suspended for both banned and time outs.Appears so, looking at the FAQ suspended means it's a temporary "timeout" and banned means permanent, at least that's the way I read it.
Isn't this really just a matter of what group they are in and then having the respective label for said group? That's how most other BBs work and from the looks of it here it's no different (though I've never used this board's software personally), "Moderator", "Contributor", macrumors regular", etc. are all labels likely based on groups. So if there were separate groups for "Permanently banned" and "temporarily banned" they could be labeled accordingly.
So what’s going on with the new suspended waiting room title? No, unfortunately - some user categories are triggered automatically, but some are custom titles that we need to add manually. Personally I liked that particular aspect of vBulletin - - that it was easy to see who was only temporarily suspended, and who was gone forever. There was also a distinction between those who asked to have their accounts cancelled and those who were suspended for breaking rules, which XenForo doesn't have.
There are lots of things I like much better in XenForo, but those few details were much nicer in vB IMO.

Oh That's weird. If I come across it again, I'll post the details.I'm confused - I haven't seen that, and can't find it in the admin panel of the forum software. XenForo has one automatic indication that an account is temporarily or permanently in suspension.

That is correct.
All I know is ... it doesn't take much to get suspended ... in fact, forget the stated "rules", the "rules" of the game shift continuously and arbitrarily.
Once the suspension expires, the title reverts to normal (in your case, "macrumors 68040").I have been suspended a few times. I don't see suspended under my user name. Is it something I cannot see yet others can?
Seems both sides of the isle can agree, the rules are not consistent.I have been suspended a few times. I don't see suspended under my user name. Is it something I cannot see yet others can?

Now this is correct, unfortunately.
Your best bet is to use the contact us link with specific examples of what oyu think is a rules violation and ask the administrators to review. I'm making an assumption that those posts were reported to the moderators but the reports were rejected as a rules violation.Seems both sides of the isle can agree, the rules are not consistent.
