It's a little too late and I don't have an extra 100 right now, her "daughter" has her birthday tomorrow, so bail on it seems the best idea. Cheers haha.
I'm glad you passed on this!

Another flag: If the seller needed the money right away, the seller would sell to someone more local (i would assume there are folks in her immediate area that would jump over this cheap MBP), so she could have the money right away with less hassle.

Personally I would only buy something in person, so I can inspect it.

I think you did the wise choice to bail on this deal. As other people said, this was too good to be true and also at that price, why wouldn't someone just pawn that computer to get 300 bucks.

Just stopped by her place with a cake and £300 and now I'm sitting here with a new rMBP omg omg omg.

Never EVER send money for something off gumtree/craigslist, even with paypal! Cash upon pickup ONLY.

Obviously the alarm bells were ringing enough for you to make this post, yes it's a scam.

I think you just saved your money and a huge headache. This had scam written all over it.

Had you asked if you could call them, they'd probably have come up with a reason why it wasn't possible. I think you made the right call.

The fact that you think this could be legit reminds me that so many people fall for these scams daily

It really speaks to something innate in our human nature that repeatedly and without fail throughout time has caused dire consequence.

Hypothetically speaking: If I was her Daughter, I'd rather have a used Macbook Pro for my Birthday, than some cheap ass 300quid party. LOL :D

Of course it's a scam. Seriously I can't believe why you'd even think this was real. No one in their right mind would sell a macbook pro that cheap. If something sounds too good to be true steer well clear of it.

Too many red flags here. Walk away if I was you.

Or, arrange to meet them. What's a train ticket? £100. Money well spent IMO, if legitimate then still got a bargain.

I'm actually going to tag on some additional caution here. Even if you do meet someone in person, when the price is absurdly low, the odds are going something fishy is going on—often (but not always) stolen merchandise. So, even paying cash in person is not a 100% guarantee that you're free and clear and have gotten the deal of the century.

There have been numerous threads created by people seeing ridiculously low prices for in-person sales on Craigslist, and this is often what's going on. I guess most local police departments have too great of a case load to go around setting up sting operations. It's a pity, since corporate theft isn't a victimless crime—especially when an unsuspecting buyer goes to register a stolen computer later on.
