Hello, just as the title says. I have currently a 2011 15 inch Early 2011 MacBook Pro which is a great machine as i HAVE NEVER had issues with the AMD chip. With Mojave now coming out soon, I have a friend who is willing to sell me a 2012 board for like 250.00 in great condition.. however, I want to know if I can just remove the 2011 board and put in place, the 2012 NON-RETINA board or even a RETINA board ?

Thanks.

You should check the disassembly instructions on ifixit. I think there are connector difference, but I could be mistaken

I hope not, because its not fair 2012 can run Mojave.. and this is why i AM NOT happy with Apple's policies.

Apple is trying to bury the 2011. However, there are usually ways to make it work. Or search for a 2012.

There are always difference between the 2011 and 2012 models.

In the 13 inch, virtually nothing from 2011 fits in the 2012. I've owned almost every 13" model and many of the 15" models. I currently own a 2.9 i7 13" and a 2.3 i7 15". I likey will never get rid of these.

I recall the displaying cable connectors are different from 2011 to 2012 15" models. But some modding can make them fit. I will find the post for you.

I think I will just install linux on my machine as a way to give finger to Apple for not allowing Mojave to run.. Someone named Dosdude is trying to REVERSE ENGINEER the OS to work.. may this be true !

Why is it critical you have Mojave? It'd run slower on your machine so Apple put a cut off (Which is reasonable), so that you can still have a good experience using it.

With interest in Apple fading from me, i may just install Linux on this because its fast for my needs.. Mojave I really don't need.

Mojave runs fine on my mid 2012

I think the reason the 2011 doesn't support it is because they didn't support Metal yet afaik, and Apple has moved to AFS, Metal and 64 bit in last few years

The mid 2012 was discontinued in late October 2016, so it will be supported for some time yet
