Hey guys, is it correct that it is possible to swap a dual processor tray from a Mid 2010 (Westmere/2.4 GHz/2 CPU/8 total cores) into a Mid 2012 (3.46 GHz/ 6 cores) that has a single processor tray. And the max upgrade for the dual tray is a pair 3.46GHz Xeon X5690 for 12 total cores?

Just hoping to confirm some of my research, thanks!

OK thanks for the reply. Now I just have to decide if I'm going to pull the trigger on it :)

Just be careful if buying on eBay. Not all of the listings for 5,1 parts are truly 5,1 compatible dual CPU tray parts. Some are 4,1 > 5,1 and (incorrectly) advertised as being 5,1. Physically the dual CPU trays look the same, but the SMC version for system and processor tray on authentic 5,1 would read 1.39f11 in system information > hardware. Do not believe there is any other way to identify this.

Thanks bsbeamer. It was on Craigslist and the serial # checked out to be a 2010. I was too busy to get it though, it seemed like a pretty good deal however.
