Swap Headphone and Line In ports?

I have a "late 2006" MBP and would like to know whether it's possible to swap the headphone and line in ports through software.

Wouldn't that require a hardware modification, considering the headphone jack also has a LED for the optical, while the line-in doesn't?

I don't know, that's why I'm asking 🙂

For what it's worth, I only care about the analogue input/output. I'm trying to connect a double-adapter to the line in, but the port is physically too close to the USB port so I can't use both at the same time. I could just get an extension cord but I'm being a cheapskate 😀
