Didn't read it all, but if you EVER use a keyboard, then the macbook is the way to go. The macbook's form factor is what is most appealing over the iPad pro. I and many others are way faster with a keyboard. The ergonomics are way better, and adding a keyboard to an iPad pro is cumbersome to carry around and not any lighter. And I like to use desktop class apps. I feel an iPad pro is a way to bring in older folks who aren't comfortable with computers, but for all others, a macbook is the way to go. Much better way to do "real" work.

I recently returned from using a MacBook 12* to a 2013 MacBook Pro Retina and I am finding the trackpad and keyboard a lot more comfortable to use.
But it's not very portable, so I'm now thinking of going back to an iPad and seperate Apple keyboard. Just need to wait to see if Apple releases something new on the iPad front.
*one thing with the Macbook, it doesn't take keyboard covers and I destroyed mine knocking a drink into it.

I've been thinking I should have got a 2015 rMBP instead for £40 more lol, it only has 256GB storage but I barely keep stuff on the laptop, everything I have is in the cloud.

Wondering how you're making out with the MacBook. I have an iPad 3 that is my primary device, and it's definitely ready to be replaced. I have a Mac Mini as my desktop, but mainly use it as an iTunes server or when I need the screen real estate.

Prior to yesterdays event, I was considering getting a new MBP and forgoing the iPad experience. I don't think I do anything that's really iPad-specific, but obviously enjoy the form factor on the sofa. Given the $$$ of the new MBP, that's not happening.

I also have a work MBP, but can't do much with it given it's not mine to customize. Now I'm looking to have a single device for the usual iPad-type stuff, along with some Linux/SSH work. Trying to decide between refurb iPad Pro 12.9 + keyboard, or a refurb MacBook.

Anyone who's switched *from* an iPad to a Macbook - do you miss the iPad experience?

I sold my iPP 9.7 to rely on my Macbook and I don't miss it at all. You can do 95% of all of your iOS tasks on the iPhone (albeit with a smaller screen). I really thought hard about what I could do on the iPad I couldn't do anywhere else - it's just not worth $500-800 for a redundant screen. It was honestly annoying keeping two iOS devices synced and up to date as well.

Loving the iPhone + 12" Macbook combo.

Sold my dad my Air 2 and bought a rmb a year ago. absolutely no regrets, especially since its just as portable as the air 2 in many respects.

I'm not sure about swapping but the MacBook will certainly get your job done. My iPad Pro 9.7" fits into a pocket of the sleeve I keep my rMB in, so I take the two as a package and it's still lighter than a single MBP. I use the MacBook for work intensive stuff and the iPad to watch lectures, take notes, and read/highlight cases. The two work together like a real power duo.

Just an update.. I returned it for sticky keys and decided to wait for another refurb, well Apple added £200+ to all refurbs so I decided to get an Asus ZenBook UX305 instead for £599. Built quality and screen is beautiful.

I'm in the same boat as you. considering to dump my iPad Pro and just get the old end MacBook. I guess I'm old school and I like my full OS.
