Ok so I have put an iPad 3G sim in an iPhone 3G (not S) and have data (only).

Might I find a problem with putting the sim back in the iPad and/or swapping back and forth as to my ATT account?

You wont have problems swapping and using them back and forth.
You might have to edit your apn settings on the iphone to get data using the ipad sim though.

I'm probably missing something, but how do you put the iPad micro sim into an iphone 3G? How does it fit?

For the records AT&T is cracking down on people who is doing that, you can check the iPad hacks forums, there a couple of threads (recents) of people that got their data block and cancel for swapping the SIM from/to the iPad. Just an FYI

YeaH, it sucks, here is one that got blocked, I couldn't find the one that got the account actually cancelled (he said he called and got it back after a long "You know what you did is wrong" speech from the rep).

Perhaps if there is frequent swapping. If one just transfers to another device and leaves it in, it would look like replacement device.

Annoying, what's the whole point in having a SIM?

I'm using the iPad sim in iphone occasionally, I wonder if they only have a problem if you use the iPhone sim in an iPad? Or maybe we are just seeing the first reports that they don't want you swapping at all?

If you use the adapter, don't insert it into the phone without the SIM in it. I made my own just so I could use my 3G if I felt like it. I decided to store the empty adapter inside the 3G when not in use. I ended up ripping the pins out of the SIM connector.

I've only read of problems with people using iphone plans on the ipad, not the other way around. Why does this matter? Well, because they want you to pay for ipad plans and don't need to worry about the ipad plans being used on the iphone since they only sell the iphones with plans (no unlocked iphones in the US right now). In other words, they just want to make sure you have two plans if you have an iphone and an ipad. Notice though, you can use your ipad plan in any device that can take a micro-sim and change the APN. I haven't heard of anyone having their ipad plans canceled or blocked.

Now, if Apple starts selling unlocked iphones in the US, things might chance.

Actually this is a really important tip, you can easily rip those pins out so whenever you feel resistance pulling out the tray don't force it, just jiggle it.

Perhaps, but I imagine any adapter would hang up on those pins if there was no SIM card in place.
