I've had my mid 2010 MacBook Pro for a few years and I wanted to upgrade the memory but it's maxed at 8gigs. I decided to buy an i7 early 2011 MBP which had 16 gigs but the display was lower resolution than my mid 2010 which I had upgraded to the high res display.
I decide to swap displays so that I could have the higher res display in the early 2011 body. I took both apart and swapped the displays but I noticed one difference, the airport/bluetooth card bracket was different and now so was the airport card itself. The mid 2010 has 3 connections and the 2011 has 4. What I did was I also swapped the airport card and bracket. It all looked great and I sealed it up. Worked beautifully for about 2 weeks. Now I'm getting the "x" symbol for the wifi which means no Hardware Installed. Looks like the airport card may be bad. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with swapping the displays and airport cards.
Has anyone done this swap before that can she's some light? Are all the connectors the same on the data cable and motherboard? I just learned that all the cables that come out of the display and go into the airport card are all antennas and have nothing to do with the wifi.
I'm going to buy a new airport card mid 2010 an hope that it works. Fingers crossed.
