You don't get 90 days warranty if it's for broken glass. That's only for hardware issues. If you're out of warranty, you'll still be out of warranty. If you're not, you get 90 days or your original warranty, whichever is longer.

So no warranty at all even if my iPhone 4 somehow have some issue after the replacement? That's lame.. lol

Now let's hope I won't be facing any issue at all then..

Yep, Apple doesn't consider broken glass a hardware issue.

^I actually had hardware issue related to the screen but then I broke the glass so I guess that didn't work.. *sigh* the famous yellow hint issue on the display on my first iPhone 4 but broke the glass... Oh well.. Time to wait for the next iPhone or go back to Android.

Worked for me today!

My 32GB iPhone 4 had a blemish on the center of the glass (it wasn't a scratch) and a dead pixel. It was still covered under AppleCare till July so I was planning on waiting till near the end to get it replaced (they seem to have a zero tolerance for dead pixels on iDevices). This was so i could sell it relatively pristine to fund the new iPhone (whenever it's released).

However, when I saw the 9to5mac article I figured I'd try. Lo and behold my Apple Store (Colorado Springs) had run out of 32GB 4s! The Genius said, "let me see if we have any replacements." He rooted around in the drawer commenting, "hmm. I don't see any ... I'll be right back" then he went to the back. When he came back out a minute later he was with another genius and a black box. The other genius said, "just replace that serial# for this one."

At that point I got excited since I had had my 3G replaced and this isn't how it went (the genius had just grabbed one from the drawer). When he put the box down I read the label and saw "4S." I couldn't contain my smile. The genius looked up from the MacBook screen and said, "this is your lucky day. We're upgrading you to a 4S." I said, "now that is how you keep a customer!" They both agreed and I shook their hands.

That is the most valuable tech article I've ever read.

On the other hand my two last iCloud backups are corrupt (they'd download 2/3 and then say the network failed at the Apple Store and at home). So now I'm having to use an old backup from March and sync from iTunes. Small price to pay. Yeah, I wouldn't feel bad for me either. ;) :D

I wonder if there's a better or worse chance with Verizon iPhones, and how long the constraint is supposed to last. I definitely wanted to have the home button replaced before my warranty runs out, but that's not till the beginning of July.

Love it....I like when the customer wins.
I will say my son has had great experience with the genius bar. They always take care of him.

I don't think it was on purpose but my other half sent his 4 in for service once a long time ago and a 4S was returned to him.

It actually created a big hassle. They didn't know what happened and after hours on the phone they finally said to keep it but that created a huge mess with ATT to get the new phone put on the account with the same number. It was a mess.

They don't typically do this.

Yeah, I know but I've heard some stories from the past so was wondering if it changed. I know that if someone has 3G they give that person 3GS so I hoped that would happen with 4 but i guess it seems that still not a policy :)

And this topic is pretty old.

What I'm curious about is if you took in a 5 for service and they didn't have any, would they give you a 5C or 5S...

No, they don't. They refer you to nearby stores with 5's in stock or they order one in for you.

I didn't go through the apple store but I did go through AppleCare through the mail and after having my black iphone 5 replaced 3 times through the mail for stuff like dead pixels and scratched screens and power button broke they did upgrade me to a white iphone 5S last month! I had the same apple manager for all my replacements and she said that after 3 refurbished replacements the customer receives a brand new unit but being the 5 is discontinued and they had no black 16 gig verizon new iphone 5 available she upgraded me to the white 5s , I did try to ask for the gold and she said no it was grey or white so I took white , it was a nice reward for going through all the trouble of mailing in my defective 5 so many times but this 5s has been great I love it , people say no way apple won't do stuff like that and I love hearing or reading those responses because I have nothing but awesome customer service from apple

i heard few stories like that so I was wondering if its more common or just rare. My iPhone 4 is dying (home button doesn't work and sleep/wake almost too) so if I am going to pay £120 for it or so I might as well try to get 4S seeing that iOS 7 makes the iPHone 4 very slow :))

You would be surprised what you get from apple if you only have the guts to ask , if I was you I would call corporate though and go through a manager and I can almost guarantee you will get upgraded and don't be ashamed cuz a lot of people will say negative things to you like what happened to buying your upgrade and stupid stuff like that and it's only becuz they are jealous you got your upgrade free , maybe you can get something higher than a 4s it depends what they have when you call but they still sell the 4s so you'll prob get that being they don't make the 4 anymore

I'll try to call apple care and will try to ask. The thing that bothers me the most is that I will pay £120 for the replacement but the iOS 7 is still very laggy on the 4 and seeing that I'm waiting for the iPhone 6 whilst I'll give my 4 to my mum then I would rather pay little extra to get 4S so my mum is not frustrated by the lagginess and I'm happy with the new one. Both win :)
