Can anyone verify if this is possible? I've been thinking about upgrading to a 2017 model but I have 500gb ssd in my macbook, and I would love to be able to buy a base macbook pro 2017 model and swapping the ssd. I was watching a video on youtube and it appears possible on the macbook.

Really? I was watching a how to on YouTube and they were using a 2017. The ram I though was the part that was soldered.

The touchbar models are soldered. The nTB is not soldered, but the dimensions of the 2015 and 2017 nTB are completely different. If someone has done it, they have either figured out how to defy physics and fit the square peg in the round hole, or they have mixed up their years.

ohhhh darn. ok at least i can upgrade the base model then. Ok thanks man.

You need a MBP SSD though, can't use the MB SSD as it's shaped differently. And the ONLY MBP you can do that with (after the 2015 models) is the 13" non-touchbar.

Hmmmm at least upgrads down the road are possible if I hang on and buy this laptop.
