My friend has a white macbook which has had a failed CD drive.
It's out of warranty, so I thought I would offer a hand.

I have a spare cd drive that came out of a 15" macbook pro after I did a optibay upgrade on my MBP, would the two drives be interchangable?

his broken part number:
UJ867a

my spare part number
UJ868a

If anyone know about mac part numbers and can tell if these would work the same, that would be great

thanks

For all it takes, try it and see if it works.
I doubt you can screw up anything at all.

what year macbook? the only upgrade is to the superdrive 8x and that's it....at least for a clean swap, you could try to swap for something else and let us know, but per ifixit, the superdrive 8x is the only clean swap
