I ordered and received an AT&T 16GB iPhone 5 in Black.
I realized that I didn't want a black one, but a white one instead.

What is the best way I can go about switching colors at this point?

Return it to Apple.com and wait till they ship you a white one or try your luck by visiting your local store first thing in the morning.

I purchased through an AT&T store, so I was told I have to return it to an AT&T store before I can even attempt to sign up for a Personal Pickup online.

I am aware that some stores have stock for walk-ins, but I am never free until at least noon so I doubt I'll make it for those.

Is it also true that the Genius Bar is NOT swapping colors?

1. Return Black iPhone 5
2. Have no phone for a long period of time until they return in stock.
3. Buy White iPhone 5
fixed.

Maybe there's a chance you can return it and just say you're not satisfied with the black and would like a white one. When they say they haven none in stock just ask if they can give you a white boxed one.

somewhat related, i purchased mine from apple store online. do we have 14 or 30 days to return/exchange a black for a white and can it be done in a B&M store. thanks!

With Apple you have 30 days however you have to return the iPhone then get upgrade reversed then after upgrade is reversed purchase the one you want.

If you try to order online what's going to happen is you'll be told you're not eligible for an upgrade.

it depends on your carrier (even if returning at Apple). AT&T allows up to 30 days but Verizon i believe is only 14 days before your grace period ends and you begin your contract, once you are on contract you are not allowed to return your device.

When you return your phone you will be eligible for an upgrade again, but in order to upgrade your account must be up to date (bill paid). If you return your phone and your account hasn't been paid then you will not be able to buy another iPhone until your account has been made current.
