So a product that no one has seen, that isn't even confirmed as real, is being down talked by a company that might be negatively impacted if said rumored product is a success
you cant compare phones to watches. Phone is something that everybody needs but watch is there just for esthetic reason.
Like Apple wanted to cannibalize their main source of profits...
Just like in 2006 when palm said apple had no chance to be successful with a phone.
Just curious when Apple has said anything about a watch, let alone proclaiming it the next tech revolution or a replacement for a smartphone. Basically all we have is the media hyping a rumor, and then others making assumptions on Apple's thinking based on the unconfirmed rumor.![]()
There will probably always be a market for expensive jewelry that goes on your wrist and tells time,
Well Apple does have some related patents to it. So the rumors aren't completely unfounded.
Of course it can't replace a phone. Its a watch. Will never be able to do what a smartphone can.

You think Swatch is going anywhere? They're the largest watch company in the world, and they make some of the best watchs in the world. I highly doubt they'll go anywhere.
They could just be random comments that are being treated like press releases, or someone asked him what they thought of the rumor and he dismissed it. It's weird when these things are treated as official statements.
Seems to me this is being picked up by the general media and tech press so they can report it and it fits in with their meme that Apple doesn't innovate, is out of ideas (a "smart" watch is so 2010), Steve wouldn't have approved blah blah blah. Basically using his comments to create a straw man (Apple thinks smart watches are the future) they knock down (sorry Apple, google glasses are "it", not your silly smart watch. Besides no one wears watches anymore anyway.)
I like this. The company has been in contact with Apple for several years, said Hayek, speaking about "materials for products and so-called energy harvesting technology that would generate energy from physical movement."
Imagine someone went up to a hot dog vendor and asked him, "Apple are reportedly coming out with the iHotdog next year what do you think?"
I would think his response would more likely be, "why would anyone replace their iPhone with a hotdog?", than "Apple cannot make a better hotdog than mine".
Last time some guy said so (many guys actually) didn't end well for their respective companies.
Of course it can't replace a phone. Its a watch. Will never be able to do what a smartphone can.
