I feel like I’m in minority here, but I kinda miss the old glowing Apple logo. Anyone here also feels like it might actually make a comeback next year? You know, with all this tendency of reversing course: ports, boxy design…

I can totally see it being slightly reimagined, with just the contour glowing (thanks to the Tandem OLED screen). A sweet spot between nostalgia and futuristic elegance.

Asked Chat GPT to envision how it will actually look and it came with this. Hardly a Jony Ive’s take, but for me personally it looks weirdly refreshing. After 10 years of the same glossy finish…

What would be the light source? On the old Macs, LCD displays were backlit with fluorescent tubes, so the light source was “free”. That’s not the case with modern LED backlit displays. The logo would need a dedicated light source. Is it worth it to pay for a light source just to have a glowing logo?

To build on this, how much thicker would the display need to be in order to accommodate both a backlit logo on the lid and the necessary components to power and control it?
