How in the world could apple get swipe typing so wrong? It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so annoyingly unusable. I was swipe typing with pretty great accuracy on a samsung phone way back in 2015. This is pathetic, apple, you should be ashamed.

To prove my point i will now try to swipe type the above paragraph without correcting any mistakes:

How in the so uh gf could apple get swipe to G so wrong G? It at ugh he’d be Hillary is if it was get so about h it unusable. I was swipe to pin G wet it pretty great accuracy on a San batting phone way back in 2015. This is pathetic, Paola, you should he’d be Asha he’d.

Realistically that could just be a muscle-memory thing. Possibly if you learned to swipe on Apple and then moved to Samsung you might have had those same issues. Those of us blessed (or cursed) with a really good, strong muscle-memory seem to have a very hard time making small changes. It's one of the reasons I never even considered going DVORAK for typing. It would take me years to retrain my muscle-memory. Not saying that's definitely the issue here; you would need a much larger sample-size than just your experience however.

How about everyone swipe types their replies to this thread, don’t correct anything, lets see how it works… I am guessing it won’t go well

I’m happily swipe typing this message and have needed to make two corrections. I don’t mind the swipe keyboard on iOS, actually (3 corrections).

Not having any problems here and I’m using an original SE to post this reply…

My 14 Pro makes it easy as anything!

Think you’re just not used to the stock iOS keyboard…

That’s a good idea. i’m doing this on my ipad air. It looks ok so far, I guess— Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country! Seems ok. I’ll try typing your sentence —- “How about everyone swipe types their replies to this thread, don’t correct anything, let’s see how it works. I am guessing it won’t go well.“

Without reading all of the other replies, maybe you just need a little time to get used to it. 😊

I've been waiting for this one for a while: a thread where Macrumors members try convincing everyone that the iOS keyboard's acceptable good! We're in store for levels of gaslighting that shouldn't even be possible!

I tried swiping your message on my iPhone 11, the results were pretty good:

I did get whacky results with my keyboard set to Swedish rather than English, but once I fixed that everything improved drastically. For reference, here’s what happens with the Swedish keyboard and the same swiping pattern:
Hos in the Wörgl Clotilde Apple ger stöd topping du sånt? It Wolf be Hillarps IF of Wagner så antingen inbjudande. I en stor topping with året har avvisat om a Samsung Phoebe watt back in 2015. Tid ISS Patreon Apple upp skulle be afghaner.

Well i figured out that i was trying to swipe too fast. User error. It works well enough when i slow down. But i do wish i could go a little faster.

That could explain why it worked well for me. I am not used to swipe typing, haven't done so in probably 10 years, so I was pretty slow.

Oh, I guess you missed the discussion when Microsoft originally announced that SwiftKey for iOS would be discontinued.

I think it’s a learning thing!

I can barely type on my keyboard these days as my keyboard interprets every slight touch as a swipe input.

Give it time, it’s quite good.

Why would anyone use swiping to text? It’s another useless gimmick feature made by Samsung that snuck into iOS
It’s quicker. Consider every letter you type, press down, lift up, move. That is three actions.

For every word I press down, move, move, move, lift up. I don’t press the space bar either!

The only downside is false positives, where they’re maybe two words with the same pattern.

Swipe type on my phone is extremely fast and accurate. The only limitation is that I need to slow down occasionally so that my finger does not get too hot and start to smoke, but that's not the phone's fault.

But seriously, swipe is much faster for everyday conversations (not technical words), and I'd say there is more than 90% accuracy.

Swipe to text hasn’t been an issue for me. But if the OP isn’t happy with the results, there is GBoard and SwiftKey if they want to install those keyboards and see if their experience is any better.

Note: I typed this on my MK for iPad.
