My first AW was a 6, and I now have a 10.

When I first used my 6, I was able to swipe-up, and see my Battery (charge/power level).

Along the way, this ability was removed with an Update (when, I really don't remember).

Only when I attach the Watch to a charger can I see my Battery level.

Looking-through the settings, I cannot--for the life of me--find the ability to add anything (widget?) that will enable me to immediately see the battery charge 🤷‍♂️

When I swipe-up, I get the current date, time, and weather . . . I already know the time; I just want to see the remaining charge when I'm out-and-about.

Any hints?

you can add battery to the smart stack for when you swipe up or scroll up
via crown..90% in photo. simply when in smart stack hold down and hit the plus sign to add a widget the battery widget is built in so no additional app required

You can also add battery level complication to some watch faces. Unfortunately, I can't find a list of which watch faces support the battery complication. The best I can find is this list, where you have to go through each face to see if "battery" is listed as an available complication.

Ha! You are a genius! Thank you.

The side-button eventually failed on my 6, so I guess I stopped using it ;/
Prior to watchOS 10, the swipe-up action showed the Control Center. WatchOS 10 changed the swipe-up action to show the new Smart Stack and widgets, so they moved the Control Center to the side button. I believe they showed a tutorial of the changes after the upgrade, but you probably never got to see it in action since your button was broken.

This is actually the battery complication and not a widget. Just to clarify, the Smart Stack contains widgets and this one "triple complication widget" that allows you to add three complications to it. You need to tap the + icon on this particular widget to add the battery complication to it (you may need to remove a complication first). If you tap the other + icon to add a widget, you won't find a battery widget there since there isn't one.
