Swiping through Apps on X. Home Button will not be missed

Well, currently it doesn't seem that people \generally swipe at the very bottom of the screen when they try to swipe left or right. There are likely user studies have been done on this to see what the effect is.

What about double tapping to highlight text left to right?

On my 7 plus the first attempt to 3D Touch/app switch swipe to right gesture does exactly what is in this video.

I’m not exactly sure how to consistently bring up the old card style app switcher through the 3D on the left style of switching.

I can't see it ever happening by mistake. You have to swipe far lower than you would normally. How often do you currently swipe across the Home Button by mistake, for example? It's super low down.
 
That actually looks pretty great. Anything new is going to be a magnet for criticism, but it seems like this is a big step forward in smoothness. Can’t wait to actually interact with the new buttonless interface.
 
I remember when I tried the multi-touch gestures on a MacBook trackpad like years ago, I was amazed by it. I wasn't used to that with Windows. But I wanted it on smartphones the way Palm did it.

Oppo smartphones would have gesture shortcuts where you could draw a letter when the screen was off to open apps. Many obscure Chinese brands had it. But swipe to go home or back wasn't really implemented on them. I bet Matias Duarte in Google is thinking what the hell?

Android should just emulate the app All-In-One Gesture and remove the onscreen buttons on the bottom. Then swipe up from the bottom of the screen to go home and swipe at the left side to go back. Double tap to wake/sleep. But be smart having toggles for on/off in case it gets annoying or playing games.

I continue to use Nova Launcher Prime because of gestures. Samsung waited too long. The last Android OEM to remove home button and still no 2x tap to wake/sleep. Now when they do it, they will look like Apple copycats again. Samsung could have made the S8 design like 2 years ago.

It took me awhile to enjoy iPhone again because I wasn't used to the physical home button and Asssistive Touch. And no back button. Raise to wake (copied from Motorola) helps. Gesture control is probably the one feature I'm looking forward to most with X while others will be too focused on Face ID and whining about the notch.

Thank you, Palm Pre. The Sega Dreamcast of smartphones. Great software. Intuitive ideas like wireless charging. Hardware that became outdated after two years. Company hemorrhaging money. Remembered and appreciated forever by tech nerds like me.
