I feel the swipe up feature on the iPad isn't the same or as intuitive as swiping up on an iPhone. For instance, you cannot swipe up while using the onscreen keyboard, while entering webaddresses or if a dialog window is displayed. This isn't an issue with the X. The swipe up is supposed to act like a home button yet there are at least 3 instances where it simply does not work at all.

Although I agree it doesn’t work as efficiently as on an iPhone X, it’s also not the same gesture really given the iPad range still have the home button.

I can also swipe up while the keyboard is on screen for both activating the dock and dragging to bring up the app switched and control center, so not sure why you’re having issues with that.

Technically I can see no reason they couldn’t have consistently implemented the home gesture, control centre gesture and cover sheet gesture behaviours across their line.

That’s the kind of thing you do when you believe in UI consistency and not trying to program artificial differences to push sales.

As to whether people would actually want the top right cover sheet gesture, the persistent home bar graphic, etc, is a whole other issue...

I came here specifically to see if I was the only one absentmindedly swiping up to go home on my iPad! I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’d really like to see the iPad adopt the same home and multi-tasking gestures as the iPhone X as I find those just work better for me now that I’m used to them.

I think for Control Centre you probably couldn’t have the top right swipe down as there aren’t any “ears” on the iPad, but as it’s currently part of the multi-tasking screen I think it could easily stay there.

maybe because other phones actually have a home button that does home gestures and thus use swiping up for cc? its not that hard to understand.

The X also has a small home indicator area at the bottom. So when you swipe your finger hits that area before it hits the keyboard. Eliminating chances of failure.

I wonder if it would be possible for Apple to make it so resting your finger on the home button for like 1/3 of a second would bring up the control center.

The iPad is a very different device, so I don’t see the need for common guestures with the X. I think Apple has moved the iPad nearer to the Mac.

Since ios 11 I don’t very often go to home page once in (no need). Just swipe up for dock and select next required application, or all the way up if I require Control Center.

Having the keyboard in use makes no difference to guestures, so don’t understand the original quaestion

Personally, I find myself inadvertently performing a swipe up all too frequently. Reading a long document or navigating a long web page requires scrolling and I am constantly getting the bar popping up instead of a scroll. I usually scroll with my thumb and it seems that the entire bottom of the iPad screen is preempted. I wish there was a way to kill it!
