So I have a 6s and there's really nothing wrong with except that I never liked the camera, particularly when using the front facing camera for night selfies... I wish I had been smarter when I first got it and immediately returned it for a refund when my husband pointed out the watercolor effect on night selfies...

I've read all the rumors about the 8 and my biggest concern rn is the possible switch to usb-C... I like having extra long cables and don't want to buy new ones..

anyway, should I hold out for the 8 or at least wait to see what the camera is like on the 8?

Thanks!

I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt any modern smartphone can take decent night shots from the front facing camera. Also, the front facing camera is probably always going to be inferior to the back camera, as it's usually intended for simple face-time and simple, low res selfies.

I went from the 6S+ to the 7 Plus. Can't say much about the front facing camera in low light between the two as I don't use it often. What I can say, though, is I was in a dimly lit restaurant a month or so ago. The people with Samsung's were trying to take selfies with each other and the pics didn't turn out well. So they used my 7+ for their pics.

The specs between the 6s+ and 7 + seem to be only a MP increase. The F stop is the same 2.2 which is what could make the difference in low light conditions.

There is still a lot of time between now and the next phone release. If you use the front camera in low light conditions often, you'll need to consider if there is an improvement in the 7+ how many pics you will miss out on.

You're right. They won't be great but they don't have to have the watercolor effect either.. my husband's 6 doesn't do that.. I read somewhere that it has to do with the compensation for lowlight and they changed it for the 6s, hence the watercolor effect...

True... I currently use the back camera for selfies...

If your phone is working good I would just stick with it til the 8 comes out.

That's what I've been trying to tell myself... and then I'm like get one now and upgrade in 12 months? November to March is only a 4-month wait.

It's just not the same without Steve Jobs man!:( He made the presentations so exiting. Without him it doesn't feel exciting anymore :(

It's not meant to negative, but Steve Jobs is gone and I still find the keynotes exciting to see what they have to offer for presentations and hardware. To many times I read these threads that the keynotes are boring because Steve Jobs isnt here. But those days are gone. Apple is still a great company and they still put out great products.

Yeah, and - depending on the model, features, etc. you want it helps waiting a couple months for demand to die down and inventory to recover.

Keep living in the past...see how far that gets you.

If you're not excited by the Apple press events, you can always tune in to something else.

Im currently in the same boat. iPhone 6S from day one...def time for change (even tho theres nothing wrong with the device). The biggest selling point for me is "waterproofing" of the 7/7+. With all these carriers having an Unlimited war, switching/upgrading has never been easier.

Let me know if you make the switch and if you feel it was worth it.

I would set an appointment and take the phone in.

My wife had a 6S+ and the front camera was a little off compared to mine and the ear piece was muffled sounding as well. We were on a trip to San Fran and walked into the Union Square store and they said come back in roughly 2 hours.
They replaced the entire front panel from what I could tell, it fixed the speaker and camera issue. No cost. No AppleCare.
Just them taking care of it.

and if you really want to compare tech companies presentations. Go watch the AMD presentation a week or two ago @ GDC.
Probably the worst thing I've seen, making me want for any sort of Apple keynote.

Actually, this is the 4th 6s they've replaced for me.. the first one's screen would click when I was trying use 3d touch... the second and third ones had shut down issues where they would just shut down at 20%ish for no reason and then say it had no battery.... all low-light selfies would have the watercolor effect no mater what...

Buy from a different store if you keep getting defective ones at the same place or buy from Apple online.

I'd say just bite the bullet and get the 7 Plus. iPhone 8 isn't reported to start production until September (which will mean a late 2017 or early 2018 launch), and the 7 Plus takes some outstanding shots. And, by the way, iPhone 8 is most likely going to stick with Lightning. USB-C is fatter than Lightning and with Apple trying to make their phones really thin, I don't see them switching to USB-C anytime soon.

Since we prob won't be seeing the 8 until September if they don't continue with the "S" cycle this year it's really up to you. Might not be a bad idea to wait until then to see what's in store since your phone is working fine but it's up to you.

Is there a noticeable difference in day to day performance compared to the 6S?

I've only had it a couple of days but so far I've marveled at how crisp the screen is, the landscape mode is awesome (now if only all apps would have that as well).

The battery life went beyond my expectations... with the 6s, I've had to conserve battery if I'm out doing touristy things by not checking social media so that I can post photos and videos... the 7 plus lasted all day.. all the way to bedtime.. ☺

I'll give another update after the weekend's over..
