How annoying is that!? Can I switch it off? When I select view I want to go to my messages not have that crap pop up preview of the message which doesn't show pictures either.

Any ideas?

Just select the notification itself and it should take you to the Messages app directly as before.

Nope.

It has view or close. View opens up a preview with the option to reply. Nothing I do takes me to messages.

It's really frustrating as the UI is dreadful. I really want to switch it off.

Couple of questions. Are you talking from the lock screen or whenever? And are you receiving your messages as banners or alerts?

When I'm using the phone and it pops up as an alert. iOS 7 would take you to messages when you selected view or whatever. In iOS 8 it opens a previous.

This isn't from notifications or the lock screen. This is from when I'm using the iPhone and a text pops up

It sounds like you're still using alerts and not banners. If you use banners, you just tap it when it pops up and it'll take you to Messages.

I've always used alerts, but I'll switch to banners now. Thanks.

But what is I WANT to use Alerts and not Banners ... I have used Alerts since day one but do not like how if I am in another app and get a message and hit reply it takes me to the quick reply box ... and No Way to say "nope I want to go to to the full messages screen"?!?!?!?

Sounds like it doesn't work that way anymore. If you hit reply from an alert, it no longer takes you to Messages.

I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat. I'm hoping this is just some type of oversight and in the next iOS update they will offer an option to change a setting in Messages that will direct you to the Messages app when replying to a text rather than using the "quick reply" function.

The most annoying part about using the quick reply function - once you start typing a reply, if someone messages you before you're finished, it wipes out everything you had typed. REALLY annoying.

Totally seems like an oversight, especially if it erases what you typed. At least the banner I use works perfect. :p

this. its just dumb and non intuitive which isn't typical of iOS and Apple. i mean it seems like they totally forgot to finish it.

How do you ever expect things to get fixed if we don't talk about these things?

I don't really know? I mean, when i got my iPhone 4s it had banners for texts already. I just left it that way, cause it's goddamn annoying when you're doing something and somebody is continuing sending texts, especially that kind of people who love to send 3 texts to complete a sentence. So.. banners for life. I can understand the RAM whining and all that stuff, but this... Count me out.

YEs, this is a major pain in the rear. At least in the app, the other person can see the dots if you are typing, but you can't on quick reply.

Apple just needs to buy Bite SMS and replace the stock messaging app. This might be enough for me to jailbreak again if anyone ever releases on for iOs 8/iPhone 6. That and the now even more comical 3x3 grid in folders.

The whole first world problems shtick just because it is something that has not affected you is getting so old, especially when the person saying that has a few thousand bucks worth of computers in their sig. ;) We live in the first world, so all of our problems are by definition, first world.

Normally I would have excused quick reply's tardiness by saying that Apple wanted to "get it right," like with copy and paste, but they did not think this UI through.

Just realized that the quick reply box also does not show suggested corrections. I guess they are there, because I can see the highlight, but they are behind the rest of the box until you hit enter.

This a big fail, IMO.
