Been using Pixel phones since Pixel 4. Every year i bought the iPhone pro models only to return them for pixel mainly for the camera.

I just got the pixel 7 (not the pro - primarily for the smaller size). I've noticed that the iPhone 14 pro camera is pretty much comparable to Pixel now. Even the low light pictures are almost the same.

I'm thinking of switching to iPhone 14 Pro. No issues for me with pixel 7 just that I've been using Android for a while now and wouldn't mind switching.

Any comments advice??

Thanks

You can transfer your data directly from your Pixel to an iPhone. Apple has an app in the Google Play store for that. Next, assuming you have primarily Google services, Google's apps are better in the iOS version.

About the only thing that won't be the same (or better) is Google One if you have that. However, Apple's iCloud is their version of that. You can buy storage tiers if you like.

Lots of people go all in on iCloud, but you can go as little or as much as you like. I prefer not to keep all my eggs in one basket so I use multiple services and protocols. Do note though, that Apple likes to default to its stuff. So, say you're adding a Google contacts account. You're going to want to check that your iPhone continues to use Google and not iCloud for new contacts (assuming you want to keep using contacts with Google). That's 'cause the iPhone will automatically default to iCloud for new contacts. You wouldn't know that until you tried to access new contacts through say contacts.google.com or something that uses that.

I mean, go for it? It sounds like you’re not really trying to address some unmet need or solve a problem, but just try something different.

So why not give it a try. Unless you’re particularly deeply embedded in one of the ecosystems, it’s easy enough to switch back and forth.

People knock on Google, but Google is what makes it easy to go back and forth. Google works on almost any device and most of its services are browser accessible.

iCloud is somewhat browser accessible, but you can't use it (without workarounds for some small pieces of it) on other devices.

This is one of my issues. I like Google drive and it has tons of my stuff over the years and I've about 200fb Storage which i pay for. I'd like to keep that

But iPhone backup only works on iCloud and with the measly 5gb free storage option it's not enough to backup anything from iPhone nowadays. So my only option is to pay for the next level iCloud storage (50gb??). I really don't want to move all google drive contents to iCloud just for iPhone.

Why do you need to backup on the iPhone what's already stored in Google Drive?

More of a phone backup for all apps and data. In case if I'd to reset and restore.
If everything is in Google Drive (more or less) than all you need is the Google Drive app. You can move files back and forth from the device & Drive.

iCloud will automatically back up your device, but its it's own service. So anything you want on Drive you're going to have to add manually (or if Drive gives you the option (such as photos), automatically).

That is one downside, but in this instance Google isn't in control of the device, so not much they can do.

So ended up getting the deep purple iPhone 14 Pro..had it all setup and used it for a few days. To.my surprise i actually prefer the form factor of Pixel 7 and the refined Android gesture navigation. I didn't think I'll actually prefer the hardware of Pixel to iPhone. I always like the build quality of iPhone and how nice it looks.

Guess over the years google has got everything working perfectly for my liking. So I may end up returning the iPhone and keep my Pixel

Go figure.

Hmmmm...I don't know, an iPhone is an outstanding product, but I don't think it's a good replacement for a Nintendo Switch. Why not hold onto both?

Oh, wait, just read the whole post. Never mind.

Switching from Apple to Android, or from Android to Apple, is like learning a different language. When I switched to iPhone (from a Galaxy Note 4 a few years ago) it was very frustrating - but after I got used to iOS I became an iPhone addict. My “conclusion” has always been that the choice between Android and iOS is simply a matter of personal taste - both are excellent. One note though - as @eyoungren has stated and I completely agree, Google apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Email, Calendar, etc etc) work as well or better on iOS than any other platform, whereas Apple apps are not even available for Android phones. My iPad (which is my PC now lol) is largely dependent on Google apps, which run flawlessly on it. Word processing, spreadsheets, it’s all there.

My wife and I got our iPhone 13s together this last March ❤️ — But she returned hers to get an Android within a week 😂. She still makes faces at me when I talk about how cool my Eye Phone is.

My wife got her first teaching job a year ago and wanted to have another line specifically for work. She gives that number out to parents/colleagues and administration.

Since we did a year on Android between the 6s/6s+ and the iPhone 11 Pro Max, this means she's using her Pixel 3a XL for this line. So there she goes every day carrying both her Pixel and her 11 Pro Max. :D

It’s $2.99 for 200 GB.

I'm also considering a used iphone(12 pro max or 12 pro) and selling me S21 FE, I just want to use my wallet that is made for iphone and honestly just be content with a phone for a few years, also I find lighting more reliable than USB-C

If you've been on one os for long enough, you need to give it awhile to get used to the other system. Of course you'll prefer what's familiar if you only give it a couple days lol. But im quite happy with my apple set up, especially better if you're using other apple products, like I have a Mac and an iPad, they all work great together.

Couldn’t agree more with everything you said. I was a devout Android user for years when I picked up my wife’s old iPhone and started playing with it. I thought it had some cool things about it but it wasn’t my Samsung. So many differences that drove me crazy.

But the more I played with it the more I started to like it. It took a little while but eventually I purchased an iPhone 12 and really jumped into the Apple world. Then got the Apple Watch and AirPods. I was amazed at how well everything works so seamlessly together in the Apple ecosystem. Now I’m on my 3rd iPhone, the 14 Pro Max. So glad I switched but as was said in your post, in my first few weeks on iOS I would never have dreamed it would happen.

A change is as good as a rest as they say. I think both platforms are equally mature and have different trade offs, neither being perfect. It’s like vanilla favour versus chocolate - neither one is better than the other but both have their strong followings.

I like both platforms but use the iPhone because the ecosystem covers my phone, tablet, computer, watch, speakers and earphones. That fact just makes life a little easier for me but I also wouldn’t really mind the alternative too.

I was similar to you. Had used Android since the OG Droid. Dabbled with an iPhone XR, but never fully immersed myself in it. Last year I figured I wanted something that just worked so I sold my Note 10 and Galaxy Watch and bought the iPhone 13. My youngest had an Apple Watch 3 he didn't use so I took it. There is no denying that hardware communication in the Apple world is unmatched. However, after about 8 months, I'm kinda over iOS. It's a very plain os, and for most that serves the purpose. But for me it just wasn't enough. iOS notifications are terrible (even more so on iOS16), customization is still lacking, and there are little software things that drive me crazy. I ended up buying the Pixel 7 Pro so we'll see how it goes. I have nothing against Apple and I will miss the Apple Watch and the cleanliness of the OS for sure. Still a chance in the future I come back, but iOS isn't quite there yet for me.
