Last night, for speed, I went ahead and ordered a full price X or at least reserved one pending carrier verification. Ship date Nov 17-24. What I wanted to do was sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Program. I tried to do it this morning when I got the reservation email but when I tried to change the order it was also changing the ship date, so I just completed the order as is. Does anyone know if either now prior to delivery or after I receive the phone Apple will let me keep the phone but change it to IUP? I will wait a few days for the help desk to settle down before I call.

Same question here. Have confirmation for order, but want to switch to Uograde Program before the phone ships without loosing delivery date commitment. Tried to call Apple this afternoon, but could not get through.

I finally got through to an Apple rep on the phone. She said I cannot change it over the phone without canceling the order and ordering a new one and thus losing my current ship date. I asked about going into the store after I receive the phone and trying to return it and then re-buying my same phone under IUP, she thought that might be possible. Looks like the plan for now.

Bump--did this actually work for anyone? I'm on T-Mobile and have decided I do want to upgrade to iPhone X and do iUP, but I can't snag any of the phones that come up for pickup each morning on T-Mobile for IUP (need to come into a store). If I arrange for pickup at full price, can I switch to IUP when I actually pick up?

I did this exact thing. I was first paired with an inexperienced associate who was flummoxed. I was quickly transferred to someone with more experience and the process went fairly smoothly (she had to check in with a supervisor occasionally). In the end I simply returned the phone I had reserved and then I re-purchased it. I had a hitch with the loan application because I had frozen my credit reports. We called Citizens Bank who transferred me to Equifax and in 20 minutes or so we were able to successfully do the IUP application (so make sure your credit reports are unfrozen before you go to the store).

Thanks a lot! Perfect, I'll do this tomorrow if there's stock at 6 a.m.
