My 15 was a 16gb, 256. I configured the 13 with 24gb, 256. I never thought I would notice any difference in response times, especially considering that the ssd speeds are identical but it's probably the m4 chip and the difference in memory bandwidth. This thing is a speed demon!
I travel a lot so the dimensions are also much better for me. Basically I'm a happy camper.

I love the compactness of the 13" but dang the FOMO of the 15" killed me. I ended up with the 15" M4 in sky blue. Microcenter already has the 13" 16/256 M4 on sale for $849. Im seriously thinking about picking that up too so that I have the best of both worlds. I would keep that one at work to take to meetings and trainings, oh and I like flashy new things.

How are you liking the going from the 15" to the 13"?
Honestly I’m liking it a lot. In my home office setup I have it connected to a 32” monitor so don’t use the smaller screen much. The dimensions are just perfect imho compared to the 15 which, although has better screen real estate is certainly less practical to move around.

Microcenter rocks! Unfortunately I don't see the M4 MBAs for pickup at my location.

Interesting, I upgraded from my 13 M1 Pro to the 13 M4 Pro and went from 16 gb to the max on it hoping to future proof it a bit. I have experienced absolutely no change in speed at all. Only advantage was I no longer get memory errors in Safari or low memory alerts with multiple apps running at work. I wish I would have maxed out memory on the M1 Pro and not upgraded to the M4 Pro.

I really don’t think the processor really matters what makes the difference was the increase in memory.

That's great to hear. What kind of applications are you using where you notice the difference in response times?

Casual browsing, MS Office etc. Out of curiosity I also tried running some native games like Stray, Myst, Resident Evil village and noticed significantly improved speeds which is also due to the better gpu.

It's a 13" M1 Macbook Pro, the same we currently have the 14" M4 Macbook Pro. Separately, there was the 14" M1 Pro Macbook Pro, and there is currently a 14" M4 Pro Macbook Pro.

I got a headache just typing that out lol...damn you Apple Marketing.

Ok, so the first „Pro“ in „I upgraded from my 13 M1 Pro to the 13 M4 Pro“ related to the Book, not the Chip … but still there does not exist a „13 M4 Pro“.

I see, yes I'm assuming that must have been a typo. You are correct that there isn't a 13" Pro anymore, just 14" and 16"

The M4 15 inch MBA price (I will call it a Skybook if I buy it) is very much in the 14 inch MBP price range. The base 16/512 M4 MBP is $1360 at Microcenter (which BB will price match) vs $1350 for 16/512 at BB with my "plus" member pricing. MBP has slightly smaller, but much better display (the extra MBP ports are meaningless for my use). Weight is nearly the same too. If Microcenter gets some of the M4 MBAs in the 16/512 configuration with their 15% off discount, then I can use them to match price at BB. I like MC, but they don't offer trade ins, which is going to be easier than selling it on my own. Apple gives better trade values than BB for my M1 MBA, but not sure of their limits on price matching.

For that kind of outlay you're getting into 14" mbp territory, which might be happy medium for you as far as size is concerned.

Could... but its also a thick and heavy one compared to either Air and could argue 14" MBP is closer experience wise to 13" MBA than to the 15" MBA (which is more akin to 16" MBP roominess).

If you can swing base models (which is the big 'if' here with my hypothetical): $849 for 16/256 13" and $1019 for 16/256 15" with price matches / lucky streak on Microcenter stock. Combined at $1868 that's only a few hundred off from even a base 14" MBP with some slight discount. And less if you already have an older 13 or 15 that you're holding onto and just getting one new M4 MBA part of this equation.

2 laptops > 1. :p

I also have MacBook Air m3 15 inch at home... wouldn't change it for a 13 inch m4... ok it will be more powerful but I loose 15 inch, double charger and 6 speakers system sound.

Happy with this air... no reasons to upgrade.
