Interesting, I upgraded from my 13 M1 Pro to the 13 M4 Pro and went from 16 gb to the max on it hoping to future proof it a bit. I have experienced absolutely no change in speed at all. Only advantage was I no longer get memory errors in Safari or low memory alerts with multiple apps running at work. I wish I would have maxed out memory on the M1 Pro and not upgraded to the M4 Pro.

I really don’t think the processor really matters what makes the difference was the increase in memory.
Yeah I have an M1 MBA with base 8 core CPU/7 core GPU but upgrade RAM to 16GB and SSD to 256GB back in 2021 when I got it. Honestly notice zero difference in every day tasks and app opening times between it and my M3 Pro MBP with 18GB Ram and M3 Pro chip. What I notice about the M3 Pro is the much better display and speakers, and having USB-C/TB ports on both sides of the computer is very convenient. Apple needs to move one of the ports on the MBA to the other side, especially now they have added MagSafe.

I love the compactness of the 13" but dang the FOMO of the 15" killed me. I ended up with the 15" M4 in sky blue. Microcenter already has the 13" 16/256 M4 on sale for $849. Im seriously thinking about picking that up too so that I have the best of both worlds. I would keep that one at work to take to meetings and trainings, oh and I like flashy new things.
Personally I find 15" too large for my personal laptop. I think 13" or 14" are just right for me. I was thinking though that since the Air is so thin that a 15" might be worth trying out. Then I saw it in person at a Staples. The blank aluminum on either side of the keyboard look really ugly to me. I know that on my 13" M1 MBP that the speaker holes aren't all functional but it looks much better to me than nothing.

I agree I have MacBook Pro 14 inch… 15 inch stays at home and it’s cool to use a bigger screen.

I've always been a big fan of 13" laptops all my life but I won't go back. Now favour 14. It makes 13 feel a bit cramped.

I just recently bought an 13" M4 Air to replace my 13" M2 Air and I can barely see a difference in the speed. My M2 flies and so does the M4. Both very snappy. Both a joy to use. I will most likely send my M4 Air back for a refund because my M2 Air is still a great computer and has years of life left in it. So there's something to think about before you upgrade.

Yeah the only good upgrade is from MacBook Air to MacBook Pro…

Were you expecting something different? Part of the reason that I can't justify upgrading my M1Pro to an M4Pro is that the M1Pro still crushes everything. It literally never slows down. Same with my wife's 8GB M1 Air (although she really doesn't push her computer like I do).

Bottom line is that unless Apple Intelligence gets good and starts demanding more than older hardware can provide, or software starts exploiting the extra power on offer, these machines are going to last a good while.

Yeah the only good upgrade is from MacBook Air to MacBook Pro…

Thiis is only true for certain workflows.

If you use your laptop for typical MacBook Air uses (web, photos, email, Office productivity etc.) then the difference between the Air and the Pro is basically imperceptible. If you're doing intensive Photoshop, Video Editing, 3D modeling, advanced coding etc. then the Pro is your friend.

My 15 was a 16gb, 256. I configured the 13 with 24gb, 256. I never thought I would notice any difference in response times, especially considering that the ssd speeds are identical but it's probably the m4 chip and the difference in memory bandwidth. This thing is a speed demon!
I travel a lot so the dimensions are also much better for me. Basically I'm a happy camper.
interesting

for me, I do not see much day to day difference from my old 2019 intel mbp to my new m4 mini

If you have the base ssd, there is a massive difference in r/w speeds.

The only reason to upgrade your MBA is if you need more RAM or storage.

LOL. But out of curiosity what do you use your base M4 MBP for that you so sure MBA won't be sufficient?
So it has 16gb of ram against 8 and the m4 chip which gives mores performances while using apps like Xcode… MacBook Pro also has a better displays, more ports, better speakers… which is cool.

MacBook Air is like in the kitchen and I use it but also family use it but my MacBook Pro… it’s only me

The base M4 MBA come with 16GB RAM and it will work perfectly with Xcode and such… and as for your "list of features", none of these things increases performance.
