As my carrier (O2 UK) claims they won't have the iPhone 7 Plus 256 in stock until Nov 30th, the 7 is looking better as each day passes.

I had the 6 Plus and currently have the 6S Plus.

I'm seriously considering getting the 7 as although the bigger battery is great, I use my iPhone for work where it's plugged into my laptop all day and I'm never really in a situation far away from power.

Has anyone made the switch from the Plus to a "normal" iPhone? What have your impressions been? Is the battery really so bad? Also I hear the screen quality isn't as good, what's that like with day to day use?

Would really appreciate people's opinions who have downsized and why did you do it?

I had both a 6 Plus and a 6 and then a 6s Plus and a 6s. The 6 and 6s were work phones, not for personal use. That being said, I would never be able to go from the Plus to the non-Plus. The battery is noticeably better on the Plus but my 6/6s always made it through the day. The screen on the Plus is better but I don't think that's anything to write home about, to me it's something that's noticeable, but barely.

My reasoning is the form factor. I am used to the bigger iPhone. Texting on the 6/6s was always something I completely dreaded and would have to keep making corrections. The screen real estate is nothing to balk at, if you're used to it, you will notice it's gone. If the extra screen estate isn't something that compels you, or if you hate the form factor I would say switch. But if you're used to the Plus form and don't have any issues with it, going smaller will definitely be an adjustment and something you may regret.

Personally, I would be patient and wait. Most likely your shipping date or the availability date will improve as it historically has in the past.

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

If I'm honest I know deep down I prefer the Plus form factor and I'm just being a child wanting it immediately! I do however know I could live with the 7 as whenever I'm consuming media I have my 9.7 iPad. Something I hadn't thought about was the size of the keyboard and how the extra real estate aids when typing. Great point.

I switched from the 6+ to the 7 and I absolutely love it. During the two years I had the 6+, whenever I would pick up my wife's 6 it felt tiny to me and felt it was frustrating to use. The 6+ was just too big in my pockets though, so I couldn't sit down to tie my shoes, or get in my car, or climb stairs, or go for a hike without taking it out of my pocket first. Now that I have the 7, I am in love. I would hate to go back to the 6+. Most of the time I don't notice it in my pocket at all, to the point where I've freaked out for a split second thinking I lost my phone before realizing it was in my pocket and I just couldn't feel it. I adapted super fast to the smaller screen. The very first day I got it, I went to pick up my old 6+ and I accidentally picked up my 7. I didn't notice it was the wrong phone until I realized it didn't have my photos and stuff yet because I hadn't restored it yet. The battery life is noticeably less than it was with the 6+, but I've become accustomed to plugging it in during my 20 minute drive home from work and it easily lasts the rest of the day.

Sure, typing is easier on the plus, but you'll get used to the smaller form factor very quickly. Things I miss/wish I had: dual cameras, "Portrait mode", extra gig of ram, and larger screen. Despite all that, I wouldn't trade back to the plus model even if it was $100 cheaper than the 4.7", let alone $100 more expensive.

Sod O2.

sell whatever phone you have now and pay off your contract and go through apple upgrade program. That is what I have done and I bagged a jet black 128gb plus on Friday.

I went from a 6 plus to a 7. I'm happy with the change. I used to use the plus one handed and I've developed rsi from holding such a wide grip.

But that's not why I switched. I just wanted a change. It took a day to get used to the smaller size. And now I prefer it.

I might opt for a plus when Apple changes the design making the bezels smaller but for now I chose a regular seven and I'm very happy with it.

I switch back and forth all the time. Haven't made my mind up on the 7 yet.

Everything else can be ignored, battery is the deal maker/breaker.

I have both the 6s Plus and the 6s unlocked. I currently use the 6s as it is more portable for active use and the battery gets me through a full day. I like taking photos so having the best camera available to me is a desire. Fortunately the only difference between the 6s Plus and the 6s is OIS which I don't think is that big of a deal.

Same here. I had the iPhone 6 Plus, and Note 7, but now I have the iPhone 7. It took me a few days to get used it the size, but I now rarely notice.

For media consumption, I use the iPad Pro 12.9. My iPhone 7 is used for music, email, and social networking.

The foot print is why I went with the smaller 7. I found myself annoyed at the size of the Plus in my pocket. The 4.7 is just right.

If your not aware, reference the bolded statement above, the iPhone 7 is 750 P and the iPhone 7 Plus is 1080 P.

I have switched back and forth so many times between the 4.7" and 5.5". I think I started with a 6 plus, for a short period, until I couldn't stand how it constantly dug into pant pockets. Then sold it and got to a 6, and later 6S.

Just a few months ago, I gave my wife the 6S, and got a 6S+ to use in a trip in Japan. Loved it this time, since 90% of the time, I had the phone in my hand for google maps or Pokémon Go. The bigger screen size and longer battery life were very handy. My shorts also had large pockets so carrying it wasn't a problem at all.

Now life is back to normal in the Fall, and my usage is back to a normal (low) level; that is, I spend more time carrying than using it, in small pants/jeans pockets. Hence, I decided to go back to a 7 at launch. While it is pocket-friendly, I can't help but feeling the 7 isn't perfect anymore, like something is missing, or I somehow want more... The two months living with the plus has ruined it for me.

So I returned it, and now I have a 7+. I'm happy to get the big screen back. I even watched a few episodes on it last couple of days. But then just today, I ate at a bar with my family, sitting on stools with small tables. There was no space to put my phone on the table. It had to stay in my pocket, and was extremely uncomfortable.

Like the ancient Chinese said - there are no needles with two sharp ends.

I hate Apple

I would just stick with a 7 and if you have an iPad use that for media consumption if you feel compelled to have a larger screen. I bounced back and forth in the beginning since I own 2 unlocked phones but ultimately decided portability is most important feature for me.

I have not one, but two iPads, a mini 4 and a 9.7" iPad Pro. I wouldn't carry any of them with me as a mobile device. I prefer watching videos on the go with my 7+. Occasionally, I also like using vnc app to remote access my iMacs at work. The 7 plus works better than the 7 for this as well.

At this point, I chose versatility or portability.

I used to have the 6s Plus then the Note 7. Now I have the 7 and it only took a few hours before I didn't even noticed the smaller screen. I actually went to the Note 7 because it had the same size screen as the 6s Plus in a smaller packaging. Made it so much easier to grip. When I returned my Note 7 due to the safety issues, I went directly to the 7 and couldn't be happier.

Do not let your decision be based on how long it takes to get to you, I did that and ended up returning my iPhone 7 for a 7 Plus a week after I got the 7.

Despite the Plus having a massive footprint, I will keep my 7 Plus. I am really used to 5.5 inch and I couldn't go back to my old SE. I think you should wait for the 7 Plus, it is so much more worth

I had a 6S plus after owning a 6 and was happy with it. Then before i sold my 6S plus I had it sent off for repair and Apple gave me a 6 on loan to use for a week. It was so much easier to carry around in the hand and in the pocket. I got my 6S plus back and sold it and almost caved in for a 7 but instead got the 7 plus and im happy with it.

Yes the 7 has its pros such as portability and one handed use but the 7+ has better battrey life and better screen estate for videos and games. So the plus for me is better. Also I'm noticing a lot more pluses being used as I think bigger screens is the way forward.

I do think if Apple shaved off the bezels and used a 5.5 screen it would definately be a winner by a long way.

I had the 6S+ but I now have the 256 GB Black 7. There is no doubt that the 7+ has a better battery but I could not get over the size of the phone. Putting the 6S+ in my pocket became a chore and more of an annoyance than anything. I enjoyed the better batter and extra screen real estate but I enjoy having the 4.7" screen just as much. It makes it even better since they had the black I wanted in stock in the size I wanted.
