well the default ubuntu setup with just GTK apps from the repos result in a quite decent consistent GUI setup. it just gets dog ugly when mixing QT apps.

I also prefer the OSX consistency, but lately things are changing with apple as well. perhaps for the OSX10.7 lion release with a new concept? I don't know but stuff like those horrible vertical itunes X controls make me shiver.

Hehe, I agree re: iTunes, I never got the hang of the UI.

I prefer VLC for media (movies) and use Spotify to play local music files - it has a great interface.

How can you say that? Leopard introduced over 300 new features. I use stacks, quickview, timemachine, spaces, etc on a daily basis. If I had to use a mac running tiger now I would get frustrated with it very quickly.

I'm not trying to start a debate here, you're certainly entitled to your opinion and if you don't like any of the features in 10.5/10.6 that's fine, but I don't see how you can claim those features don't exist.

Sorry Response is a bit late. I agree spaces is good, but I already had that in 10.4 with a 3rd party thing. It was pretty much just as good. But I do admit that I have gotten used to 10.6 spaces now and probably like it better. Having said that, I only like it better because I have the magic mouse (probably the best thing apple has done for macs in the last few years).

Spaces doesn't nearly make up for the breaking of spotlight -- The best feature of 10.4.

Sorry if I said that 10.4 is better. But it was much better for its time that 10.5 or 10.6. If given the choice between 10.6 and 10.4 I would of course use 10.6 (even with broken spotlight and broken preview search).

Lion preview gave me hope. It is really focusing on the magic mouse and UI efficiency. I think it has a chance of making the same breakthrough in usability that 10.4 was.

P.S. I might have a slightly nostalgic view of 10.4. I just remember loving it every day I used it, which is not really the way I feel about snow leopard.
