Will Android ever get iMessage support? Only thing holding me back.
I thought this would hold be back too but I can access my messages on messages.google.com which is nice when I'm using my PC. Since RCS was adopted 9/10 of my messages are over RCS vs SMS these days.

I wrote an NTP timestamp server named Canary.. Not sure why it’s in Android, but yeah, cool. Wish I went to college to write software. Ironically enough I sent it to the NSA and yeah, I think it was hacked from my gmail. Whatever, off to work lol..

I don't want Apple getting cozier with Google
Only part where I agree with SkyRom. There's an ever-growing sketchiness in the tech world as to how these SuperGoliath companies interact with each other.

The rest of the post reeks of elitism and the downvotes indicate that sentiment is NOT popular among The People.

As someone who came from the Google ecosystem, I have to admit, this seems a little fishy. For the longest time I thought Google and Apple tolerated each other, out of mutual respect, even though their business philosophies were vastly different. But after sweet money from the search deal started piling up and now the Gemini backbone to Siri, I’m starting to wonder what else is going on…

Apple really wants to make it easier to switch to Android after releasing the stinker that is called iOS 26? 😂

Joking aside, Google has a terrible track record for having no respect for user privacy. That alone makes me want to stay with Apple. I'd rather go without a smartphone than switch to Android.

I was Android for a long long time for my main phone.
Dabbled every couple years with an IPhone.
Finally made the full switch because IPhone and Android now finally are compatible mostly with the Google ecosystem, thanks to the regulatory pressure, but that’s only been the last few years.

In the times I dabbled in switching, the migration software (my wife went from IPhone to Android for a year) were terrible; time consuming, random data transferred over, random data didn’t transfer over, time stamps of messages and pictures were totally off.

Glad to see that’s coming together. RCS has been a big one as well these last couple years.

Can't help but think they were doing this to get regulators off their backs about anti-trust issues and monopolistic practices.

esim hotswap - can we make esim hot swapping between iPhone and Android a regular thing? With zero carrier involvement - just like regular sim swapping allows.

Regular sim card hot swapping between multiple devices requires zero carrier involvement.

Esims are supposed to be "the future" and "better". Until esim supports hot swapping back and forth and iPhone and Android and vice versa on a daily basis, as much as we want, I don't think it's true.

Some might say this involves carriers but I kind of disagree and think Apple and Google should take a leadership role here and *bring* this ability *to* carriers. Make the front end and back end technology so easy that carriers will support it. And eventually require them to do so.

If I could get iMessage and FaceTime, I'd leave iPhone in the dust. The Pixel 10 Pro XL is a fantastic phone. I returned it due to missing those.

Pro tip if your leaving ios for droid use a new phone number, apple will never remove that number from its icloud servers which causes some issues with alerts and messages in the future

Too funny. That may have been 5-7 years ago but I have both iPhone and Android with the same apps. The only difference is they are slightly laid out differently but full functionality is present. No problems whatsoever!
Nope, you’re absolutely, 100 percent wrong. It’s still a problem today. Clearly reading comprehension is not your strong point. YOU may not have problems with the software you’re using, but others, including myself, do.

There are quite a few non-Google players who could do that for quite some time now, many from China and one from South Korea.

Not planning on switching OS. But easier transfer is a very good change for those looking to try out the other OS. Expecting a quick roll out of this feature.

That stinker is the sole reason I'm typing this on a pixel right now instead of an iPhone.

I haven't dedicated my self to android, I'm holding out hope that iOS 27 fixes ALOT of the problems I have with it. But time will tell.

I don’t know what is holding me. I haven’t used FaceTime in over a year, and 90% of my texting is RCS or Messenger.

What about me.

I don’t want to buy Apple, but I do. Mainly because of family lock in and being tied to iMessage, FaceTime, and iCloud Photos with relatives.

I appreciate Apple, and you’ll pry my MacBook and Apple TV from my hands, but for me the iPhone is just so absolutely meh compared to phones that literally give you a tablet in your pocket.

I think you answered your own question. iMessage is Apple’s hook into its ecosystem. I’ve been avid Apple user since original Mac in 1984 however I do like to play with Android devices ( I have a Galaxy Z Fold 7). I find it quite annoying not to be able to have my iMessages flow over. I’ve tried a few hacks to make it work and 1 or 2 did for awhile but I gave up trying.

I doubt Apple will ever make it easy to flow back and forth between Android and IOS.
With RCS how is iMessage lock in?

It's quite a mad thing. Imagine if Xbox/Playstation made something that enabled you to switch gaming platforms with ease.
How about Sega and Nintendo in the 90s. All your games, purchases, save states, progress and data carried over to the other console.

As a 90s kid, I think that would’ve been amazing!

Completely agreed.

Why couldn't the eSIM QR codes be like a permanent ID card that could be reused to facilitate easier SIM swapping between devices? They'll say it's for security but there is Internet verification to activate so it is possible to check to make sure no duplicate eSIMs are issued for the same account. (I'm thinking like scan to activate, scan to deactivate, then scan to activate again)
