i tried to look around, didnt see an answer to this.

i have VZ right now, looking to move to Tmobile as part of pre-ordering the new phone on the apple upgrade program (ive had it for 2 years now).

only issue is that when i try to go through the upgrade process on my phone at the moment (settings>icloud>phone>upgrade) it assumes i am upgrading to a verizon phone...and does not give me an option to select tmobile.

i thought the entire point of the AUP was that it was completely separate from the carrier??

any help would be appreciated.

Interested in switching from att to vz, I wonder if the new models will be able to handle both carriers

If you’re interested in switching carriers, I would think it would be easier to switch before pre-ordering. Get your current iPhone moved over to TMobile (it’s a Verizon model, so it should be unlocked and able to be used on TMobile’s network), and then do your upgrade. If I were going to switch carriers, that’s what I would do.

That was the approach I took when I switched carriers.

All rumors have been that there is no longer going to be two separate models like there was in years past and that all models will be able to support both CDMA and GSM based networks. I guess we’ll see.

That would be my preference. One model - a SIM free model that supports all bands. I do have concerns about Apple exclusively using Intel modem chips for 2018 models. There is some evidence along with user experience indicating that Intel modems are inferior to Qualcomm chips.

Yeah, I hear you. I’ve had 3 Intel iPhones in my household the past few years, and we’ve had no noticeable performance issues, so I don’t personally have any concerns. Maybe we just live in areas with strong AT&T coverage. From what I recall of the coverage of the issue, the most noticeable performance difference came when people were in areas with weak cell service. If the rumors are true about just one model this year, there won’t be two models to compare, but I won’t be surprised if we start hearing from users upgrading from a Qualcomm model that they are suddenly experiencing worse performance. Whether it’s true will probably be tough to really determine.

I recently switched from AT&T to Verizon. I had to switch iPhone models to support CDMA. The mobile broadband speeds are faster since I switched. However, I don't know if that's due to Verizon or the Qualcomm chip. One thing that's obvious after I switched....Verizon has better coverage than AT&T in my area - Hampton Roads. On AT&T I would not have any signal if I was in the inside of a big box store like Walmart or Home Depot.

so there is just one model for all carriers , this is a for sure even though no one has tested yet that I am aware of
