I've been on the IUP for the past few years and will be getting a brand new iPhone XS Max tommorrow  I'm interested in moving from AT&T to Verizon going forward and was wondering what the process entails and whether a phone swap was required. On the Apple website it appears that they are shipping one model that has both the GSM and CDMA gear but I know years ago they had different versions. There also is scant information - at-least from what I could find - about the process to switch from carrier to carrier while on the IUP.

Any guidance or real world experience doing so would be much appreciated! :D

I think this is the first year where you don’t have to switch phones to go to Verizon to have CDMA. So just Pop in a Sim and you should be good.

if you are thinking about going to Verizon then buy the Verizon model. as I recall all iUP phones are automatically unlocked and the phone will have the GSM support cause it's needed for Verizon to get LTE cellular data

They both have the same radios, AT&T works on Verizon now. AT&T model has the Verizon CDMA radio. They have alway been able to use the same LTE bands.

Do I need to do anything with Apple or just go straight to Verizon?

Assuming you mean in the future? No, just go to Verizon. You do have to activate the phone tomorrow with whatever you signed up for the program with, but after that you don't have to do anything with apple, can just go to Verizon to switch.

Awesome and yes, I had assumed I’d need to activate it on AT&T then switch so no biggie. Thanks for the tips!
