Switching Core Duo to Core 2 Duo?

I have a macbook, and i love it. But then apple decides to come out with a new chip updates after like what, 3 months after the macbook comes out. I want to switch my core duo with a core 2 duo, is that possible? And if so, would i see a significant change?

It is possible AFAI (some are soldered, some are not, I'm not sure which), but the price (and warranty voiding) is not worth the speed increase...
