Switching from ATT to Verizon with pre-order?

I'm currently with ATT and will be moving to Verizon with the new 4S. Question is, can I preorder the new iPhone from Apple at 2 year contract price, retain the same number, and move to Verizon?

I'd imagine that you will be able to pre-order through a carrier? I read that ATT was going to have an app where you can do this, so I'd imagine VZW will have preorders as well.

I'm moving from Sprint to AT&T primarily because I realized that the difference in price between subsidized phone (on AT&T) and unsubsidized (on Sprint, because I'm mid-contract), even considering my ETF, is actually larger than the difference in AT&T and Sprint monthly pricing.

And I'd like to do what the OP wants to do. And ideally still be able to preorder with Apple at 12:01!

My other option would be canceling Sprint and pre-ordering for a new phone number on friday.

I'm pretty sure you can. When you buy it, I assume there'll be an option to port your number when you create a Verizon account.
