I bough the base model MBA a couple of days ago and it runs so hot, it’s too annoying. I do very basic things like browsing the web through Safari, texting and Spotify and the keyboard always gets so warm after just a couple of minutes, it makes it uncomfortable to type. It’s such a shame because I love the design and the color (gold). My previous Air (bought in 2013) stayed pretty cool and silent 90% of the time. I’m thinking of returning this one and buying the base model of the new Macbook Pro 13”, but I don’t really want to spend more money and have the same thing happen with the Pro. Does the MBP 2020 get too warm as well? Thanks!

Not at all; had mine around a week now and never noticed it getting hot at all.

Ok the fans run when I'm on YT for ages, but other than that it's perfectly silent :)

I would recommend to switch to the MBP. I'm so much happier now with my 13" 2020 Pro.

I originally bought the 2020 Air and it was struggling with the many tabs I have opened in Safari. It would freeze from time to time. Fans kicked in for basic tasks, and it sounded like a space ship taking off for more intense tasks. I was surprised that I didn't see much difference in performance from my 2014 MBA that I was trying to get away from. And the fans kicked in more than the 2014 model. Just disappointing. I did not feel like I was upgrading to a 2020 machine.

I haven't had a MBP for years. My 2009 (2010?) MBP was my favorite Mac, so I'm happy to be back with the MBP line. To me, the more substantial, thicker chassis feels more premium. I do not care for the MBA's wedge shape. The MBP Touch Bar is still something I'm not sure I like. It can be distracting, and I find some of the icons with more white in them are especially distracting and that the Touch Bar is too bright in some situations. That said, those are minor complaints. Just looking for a hard case that was specifically made for the 2020 MBP model now...

Anyway, 100% switch to the 13" MacBook Pro. You will be much happier. If you are eligible for the education discount, do it - you save $100 and you get a free pair of AirPods that you can keep or sell.

honestly I only heard the fan twice (and for a short period of time), but I can’t get over how annoying the heat is. Both the keyboard and the bottom get so warm that it’s uncomfortable to keep it in your lap... and just like you, I don’t see a big performance difference between the 2020 mba and my 2012 mba, which is crazy!
