Switching from Optical to Analog

It switched automatically in XP, but now that I've installed Vista SP1, it doesn't switch automatically. I have to click on the icon on the bottom right and change the default. Then when I unplug my optical cable I have to switch it back or the speakers don't work.

I have a MacBook Pro, with Bootcamp 2.1 and Vista Ultimate 32-bit w/ SP1.
