I am going to be getting an iphone in the next few weeks (Hooray!). I'll be switiching over from Sprint. My only option is to go through the ATT store right? I'd like to go through the Apple store for ease of use if I have problems with my phone and need a replacement/advice. However, to get the $199 price on the iphone if I am starting a new contract, I need to go through the ATT store correct?

I really wouldn't mind starting my contract at an ATT store if I can take that new contract to the apple store to get my iphone though...

Do I just really not understand the process at all? Any advice would be most appreciated!

You could go through an Apple Store. It's simplest to bring a recent phone bill with you as you need the account number on it.

So I could just bring in my current Sprint bill and go from there?

that's only if you want to keep the number. you really just need the sprint account number really. bring a ID, and credit card also to the apple store. oh, and if you can't remember your social security number, bring that also.

Go to the apple store. I got mine from the ATT store but they dont have any in stock of the 8 gigs. I ordered mine on 8/20 and it arrived on 8/22 in store. I know the apple store has a bunch in stock.

Yes. That's exactly what I did to switch from Sprint to AT&T. I had my old number ported right at the Apple Store, too. The one piece of information you may not have and that they require is your online account login information (i.e. www.sprint.com). The login ID is your Sprint phone number. If you forgot the password, make sure you call Sprint (or stop by at a Sprint store) to obtain it before you hit the Apple Store.

Talked with the wife last night and she wants to get a "family" contract, but doesn't want the iphone (I know, I know.. she's a free phone kinda gal). That is probably something I would need to do through the ATT store then right?

Do you have a family plan with Sprint right now?

If you don't and intend to get a family plan with AT&T, and she doesn't want an iPhone - but she still wants AT&T, you can still go to the apple store. Just go to the apple store first, get your phone. Then go to an AT&T store and add a line for her with a free phone and convert both numbers into a family plan.

If she has Sprint with you and you're both on a family plan, you can still go the apple store, get the phone, port your number. Then Go to the att store, port the wife's number to a new account - then combine both numbers into a family plan. Then cancel the sprint account and pay any ETF fees.

awesome... yep we have a family plan with Sprint right now. So, that sounds like a good way to go!
